  • Sure. I should probably look at one out of curiosity. I know most old skool guys use them, like Kristof, Jesse and most of YACF. And the AA batteries thing is handy.

  • My missus will get my 1030 when I get the 1030 Plus so her Wahoo Bolt might be going for sellz then.

  • You could have a play around with mine (ooh nurse). I mostly use it for off-road stuff and backups and i'm not sure how much dirt I'll be riding. Probably should do something before that 24hr in July if I'm actually gonna ride it.

  • Actually for 25 quid just buy that one andyp mentioned.

  • Got, it - thanks!
Will be interesting to have a play.

  • Just bought a new one, thanks though.

  • I took the Stages Dash L50 out for its first trial today, 100 km / 4.5 hours in the Chilterns.
I was pleased with it and think it will work for me.

    Good bits
It's got a bright colour screen, as bright and clear as a phone, with easy to see lines for the course and where I've been, in different bright colours.
Battery life, after my ride it said 66% left, so 12+ hours seems realistic.

    Less good
The mounts are shit but they do an adapter that works with garmin mounts. Even that isn't great so I'll just get a stick on garmin adapter for a couple of pounds and chuck all their mounts away so this isn't actually a problem.
The software doesnt work as well as garmin connect in pushing stuff to strava, training peaks, etc. But it can be done and they reckon there is a new version in the way.
The buttons are pretty hard to press, especially the power button, but I think I'll get used to them.

Overall, it's not perfect. The hardware isn't as refined as garmin, but it does what I want it to do much better.

  • How much was it?

  • [deleted - messing around trying to upload pic]

  • Here's a picture.

It is really clear where I am meant to go! Which is the main thing I want.

  • Is it possible to view a live track session as a 'moving target' on my 830 in order to intercept someone mid-ride?

  • Could be possible with "GroupTrack", but that requires GroupTrack to work in the first place, as it sometimes doesn't (the specific data page won't show up so you can't go any further)

  • Alright ta, good to know. Managed to make it work with the old-skool "I'll meet you at x place at roughly y time". Crazy.

  • Just had an almighty battle with my Wahoo so posting this just in case anyone else has this issue in the future. I was out riding the other day and when I tried to turn on my Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt it came up with a message saying it was ''installing'' something followed by ''error install failed''. It then switched itself off. At the time I laughed it off, thinking that it would struggle to install anything when out and about and not connected to stable WiFi. I didn't even know where my device was that I usually pair it with when using the companion app. I tried again a few days later at home and got the same. I did some Googling and nothing really seemed to suggest a solution. I got repeated advice to make sure the Wahoo was connected to my WiFi by using the companion app to check but I couldn't get past the installing/error install failed thing and the Wahoo just kept turning itself off. My phone couldn't find the Wahoo. Other advice also suggested that I might be having an issue because there wasn't enough free storage space on the Wahoo, so I should go into the companion app and select the ''manage maps'' option to create some space. Christ. In the end I had to download Android File Transfer to my computer, plug my Wahoo in, and delete a file called ''system_update_elemnt''. This stopped the device going into the installing process and I could then check the storage, check the WiFi connection, pair it with my phone, make some space by managing some maps, and do all the updates (there were several, and several reboots, the whole thing took ages).

Serves me right for not updating the thing for about two years.

  • But wahoos don't update automatically as far as I know... Did you start an update and went outside without waiting for it to finish? Anyway the experience sounds horrible.

  • Looking for a new bike computer current computer is a garmin edge 200 . Battery can only do 5 hours atm . Can any Recommend a new computer garmin or wahoo for below £200 don't need power output or Cadence would like colour maps.

  • I just found a wahoo bolt v2 for £225. That's the best price I could find for a wahoo.

Paid with Klarna, £75 a month for 3 months.

  • Thanks for replay will take a look at review.

  • Going to be doing some cycle camping with my girlfriend this summer and I know she will not like winging it like I do...so looking to get a cycle computer that can use maps...

Not looking for the best high tech stuff and would prefer something reasonably priced and potentially second hand....

    Any opinions?

looking at a Garmin edge 530?

  • Before you spend money on another gadget, have you ruled out using a phone app, such as osmand or bikecomputer?
The advantage is they'll give you much better maps.
A phone takes more battery power than a GPS, but you probably want to keep it charged anyway for other stuff. So how many hours you plan to ride per day, how many days you will be off grid and what your charging plan is dictates how many power banks you would need and if its viable.
Eg a long weekend riding 6 hours a day with no dynamo, probably fine with 1 x 10 ah power bank.

  • Gaia app gets suggested a lot for offline off-road riding

I've used OSMAnd and RWGPS app in anger (TCR4) before when Garmin died.

Having said that, my abusive Garmin relationship means I'm now using a 1030 Plus and the missus has just got my 1030 to replace her Wahoo.

  • Well thats a good shout really. obviously we will take a power bank anyway for phone , camera charging anyway.

We will only be doing 4 days with 6/7 hours of riding a day....Plus you can download routes / maps for offline phone use which will require less battery anyway.

    Nice one F

  • Sounds good. Maybe take an extra power bank to be safe? Like any setup, worth testing it beforehand to see what battery life you get so you can work it out. Or just wing it and take plenty of spare capacity!

You may know this already but you use less power from your power bank if you run a phone (or anything else for that matter) with it connected so that it's battery is always full, rather than running it down and recharging it later.
