Yeah I bought one from Pascal and fixed it. Needs a load of silicone over it to stop water coming in but other than that I think it should be fine.

Many thanks. Even at a glance that answers many of my ClimbPro questions, e.g. why sometimes Strava segments don't work when you're using it.
Think it's too much hassle and I'll just ditch it until I go somewhere with proper climbs! -

That top option doesn't look waterproof at all. I think I prefer the options that cover the whole gap. I'm still just using mine inside and turning it on with a pen. 1030 does proper rides now.

It's not even remotely waterproof. As I said, silicone. And then maybe a bit of electrical tape then a case to hold it all together. Mine is just a backup unit for if (well, when), the 830 has a problem.

Yeah, my point is kinda, why bother with a fancy solution that leaves it open to water? If you have to fill the bastard with silicon and cover with electrical tape then why not just silicon a little stick in place and cover with tape anyway?

For the "climbing scale" this is what Wahoo claims... quoting from the mailing list
ELEMNT Climb/Elevation page scale
Normal Mode: 2km/2mi, y=200m/600ft ---> Fit All
Route Mode: 2km/2mi -> Fit Soon (20km/20mi) -> Fit Remaining - > Fit All (including History)Normal mode is when you don't have a route (nothing is anticipated)
Route mode is when you have a route you are following so it knows what the profile ahead looks likeThe scale is for the entire screen width (you can infer from the vertical has lines).
The -> means you zoom in, then loop around. It took me a few minutes to wrap my head around this, but it does make sense to me anyway.

It's SLIGHTLY nicer looking than a blob of silicone and works better (I tried sealant first). For the small price it seemed reasonable. At that time though, I'd not been offered a discount to get a new unit by Garmin

Agree with All the points made. To be clear i purchased the part on the lower photo as waterproofing was my Main concern as well. I think Garmin fucked the button design up as it seems to be a Common problem. Hope to fix it Up for good as the unit is working flawlessly.
Any interest in a write Up on how to do the repair when i get to it?

Forerunner 945 is £519 on Wiggle, Fenix 6 pro is £599.
Is the Fenix worth the extra, or is the 945 the choice to make?
-
• #1837
The new Fenix 6 Pro Solar is only £739.

I got the 945, really like it so far. Wrist based HR is a welcome novelty.

Wrist based is welcome .
just sayin

Never wear a fitness tracker on your wanking hand. Especially if you share your fitness data with another person. Just sayin'. A friend of mine helped develop a wrist-worn fitness tracker. He refers to it as the Wankometer.

Tried to use my Wahoo rflkt for the first time in years and it basically doesn't work.
If I just want a cheap way to show route directions on my handle bars what secondhand Garmin/similar should I be looking for?
Showing other info like speed, distance, etc. is a bonus, but mainly I want to set a route on some sort of app and have directions or a map show them in from of me so I know when to turn left.
I don't want to have my phone mounted in case of damage, rain, etc.
Cheers.

I just bought the Garmin Edge 530 last week for ~£230. It probably does more than you need it to, but as a basic GPS turn by turn route manager it was great. Long battery life (+20 hours), solid out front mount included and you can download routes from a number of different sources.

Cheers. I was thinking of something more like £50. Hence asking about what 2nd hand / old models would fit.
At that price I'd probably investigate a mount for an old moto G and just use that in a paired back set up.
In fact, bar the battery life that sounds like it might be a much better idea anyway.

If anyone has a good condition Garmin 500 (pref. Silver / Blue) going, please send me a message with a few photos of it and your asking price.

Edge 25? (£50ish second hand) It's tiny, simple, but does the job for me i.e. basic navigating around town. It's a breadcrumb trail, with left /right indicators that beep and flash on screen about 100m before and on the turn itself. If you miss the turn it doesn't reroute, but it shows you where you are in relation to the breadcrumb trail so you can work your way back to the route using common sense. I've been using the phone app to set the route and synching it there and then instead of using the computer beforehand, and it's been pretty good so far in terms of finding cycle friendly routes. You can't put a postcode in, but you can pin point your destination which is fine. It does what I need it to do without having a bulky phone on the handlebars.

If you don't use a power meter then the 25 is a good choice. Otherwise, the 130 is cheap'n'cheerful.

Edge 25
Awesome. Thanks. That's exactly the sort of thing I was after.
Ride With GPS were really good when I emailed them and refunded my subscription (as the RFLKT doesn't work with it anymore). But they also suggested trying the old firmware first to see if that fixed it and sent a step-by-step guide.
Funny how customer service works. I'm now much more inclined to sign up once I'm cycling with them again, and on the other side Wahoo have been added to my list of brands I will never buy from again.

Karoo 2 page and pre-order is up https://www.hammerhead.io/pages/karoo2
FWIW the guy that created this guide seemed to get a lot of kudos for it, so it might be helpful (although I never use it)..
