  • Even my old 800 would work for 10-12hrs and you can always add an external USB power source without needing dynamo.

  • Thinking of finally shelling out for a subscription to RWGPS. Does this allow you to create routes in the app, or do you always need the website, and therefore really a PC?

  • Need PC as far as I know.

  • Not on the app, just online. I think Komoot is quite good for on the go routing.

  • My edge 800 is acting up. Original card is years old so I sent it to the recycle bin and have been trying to install osm maps. It appears the one I installed was to heavy for my device. Tried to route to an adres 20km from here and it couldn't. Installing a light map now, hopefully this will help. If not, the 800 has served it purpose and I might look elsewhere. Looking at the dcrainmaker site right now and it seems the 520 or wahoo bolt is the way to go? Or is it worth it to cash out for the 1030?

  • Hmmm. I picked up a dirt cheap Lezyne GPS in the sales / with some vouchers. The Lezyne app is wank, but the unit seems to work great if you import a tcx from RWGPS.

Can you make tcx routes in komoot? I think the Lezyne is quite fussy if you want turn by turn.

I've just realized that if I access the RWGPS website via Chrome's "requesting desktop site" on my mobile, it just about works. I can at least download routes to my phone (which you cant do in the free RWGPS app), and at a pinch, could even do some routing.

It's more about convenience as I don't own a proper PC / laptop as I've just got used to doing everything on my phone. 1st world problems right there. The lezyne app itself would probably be what I used for on the fly routing if I needed to bail out. It is shit, but could manage that I think.

  • Can you make tcx routes in komoot?

    Not that I'm aware of..

  • That simplifys things.

It looks like the only benefit of upgrading and paying for the basic RWGPS is that you can download routes within the app, rather than via the website. If you don't want to use the app itself for navigation, there appear to be no other benefits. I'll keep my money in my pocket.

  • the only benefit of upgrading and paying for the basic RWGPS is

Supporting a useful tool, helping to keep it running aka feeding the team...

  • Ah yeah, there is that. LFGSS is already my charity of choice of though.

  • If you don't want to use the app itself for navigation, there appear to be no other benefits

    Supporting a useful tool

Perhaps they should make it more useful then

  • You can post your charity cheques to my cave at:

    Londone
    Engerland

  • The website is really useful for route planning and I've used the app for TCR navigation when the Garmin shat it so I think RWGPS is worth the money. I was paying for it before they changed their fees.

  • Next you'll be telling me we should be paying photographers and we all know photos don't do anything!

  • indistinguishable mumbling

  • Karoo users, been having problems with the mid-ride random reboots that seemed to be a known issue for a small number of people. I’ve done the workaround that hammerhead recommend, by “disagreeing” to share info with Mapbox - does anyone know if this setting is permenant? Or do I need to do it every time I start a ride? My googlings haven’t given me a definitive answer, ta.

  • Garmin 1030 was total ball ache today on an out and back route. It doesn't redraw the screen while calculating route which is fucking sketchy, as if I'm going to stop moving for you to finish stupid Garmin. Ended up just following route line for 20km until it split and I could get the piece of shit to work properly.

  • Anyone know where i can change my weight and heigh in the wahoo profil?
If i change it in the app it allways switches back to old data when i restart it

  • If it's like my edge you have to change page (to elevation or whatever) then go to map again to see where you are now. It will still be static, but you can do it over and over until it's loaded. TL,Dr Garmin is shit

  • Yeah, that's what I've been doing. It wasn't this much of an issue on the 1000. 1030 seems slower. Also, found another bug where you zoom out on the elevation page to say 41km and you can now not zoom back in, even if you restart the course!

  • GE 6.11.1.0 is available. Will try a firmware update on the 1030.

  • "Changes made from version 6.30 to 7.00:

    • Fixed elevation zooming issue with large courses/activities/segments (>100mi or km)."
  • Of course Garmin Express "This may take a minute" has been running for an hour now.

  • Made my bolt winter-glove compatible
