  • God knows. Don't drink wine. Try asking in Sainbury's

  • Pft!

For Danish Blue you want a French Cabernet.

  • is that a date then???

  • Hi all, thanks for your comments.

I rang London Fields and the guy I spoke to seemed to know what the problem was: apparently the fixed cog needed is not the standard type, it's a less common one that is the same width as the freewheel(?) on the Flyer. I'm new to all this so please be kind!

He offered to sort it out for me in return for cake.

Seems like a cool place with staff who know what they're talking about!

    John

  • Well done. There is always someone who knows, just not here. It's always good when companies require the use of non standard parts is it not?

Glad you posted what it is as it might help somone else out.

  • I'll let the forum know if it works!

Overall though I'm pretty happy with the bike, it seems to me the best off-the-peg single speed at the mo (at least, of the easily available one!)

    Thanks,

    John

  • jhclare I'll let the forum know if it works!

Overall though I'm pretty happy with the bike...

    Well thats what matters!

  • ffub Lol... set myself up there.

A Clockwork Orange by Burgess (make sure it's a UK edition)
Breakfast for Champions by Vonnegut is quite amusing, if a little naive
Journey to the End of the Night by Céline has similar philosophical themes

now can you fix my laptop?

  • Journey to the End of the Night by Céline has similar philosophical themes

yeah yeah yeah but does it have any pictures

  • so im going for the French Cabernet then, thanks dave.

  • i got a copy of clockwork orange sitting around if some one wants it

  • i read clockwork orange, it was good. better than 'everything is illuminated', that was shit.

  • i used to have a 1992 clockwork orange

  • i had a terrys orange once tasted prettty nice

  • haa

  • some ranom guy gave me an orange yesterday for fixing his breakes...

  • The deal is, as said above the 18T freewheel cog and chain and 48T chainring supplied on the bike are 3/32 (2.3mm) width. They have included a 1/8 (3.2mm) width fixed gear with the bike. Problem is it is too thick to allow the the 3/32 chain to run on it. If I were you I would go to Brixton cycles and get a fixed Surly 18T 3/32 gear for £19.00. Looks cool, and they have stock unlike the 1/8 version. (I was there today). Alternatively change the whole lot over to 1/8.

  • That is the issue! Oh my god and Evens could not sort that out! Amazing they sell BMX biek so the must know of 1/8 th chains and 3/32 chains e.t.c Incredable.

  • good bike shops, southside definately brixton cycles, also herne hill cycles, norwood road se24 by brockwell park, they are very helpful.
Northside there is Bicycle workshop All Saints Rd W11 very good and of course condor etc

  • i live across the street from bicycle work shop...

  • I am completely new to the forums and glad I found them - Having commuted on a singlespeed hybrid for a year I am about to the make the leap to fixed.
I was planning to pick up a Genessis Flyer this weeekend from Evans Holborn of all places. Would prefer to build my own as with my MTB and Hybrid but my company take part in Ride2work via Evans and it is a bit too much of a good deal to miss. I now have a £500 voucher burning a hole in my shellsuit.
Has the rest of the bike turned out ok ? as I can fit the correct fixed cog myself - or do I opt for a Fillmore or Paddy Wagon ??
Any help with an off the peg fixed (from Evans) Greatly appreciated ! - Eddie

  • I started out on a Paddy Wagon, and it's a pretty nice bike.

Main complaints about it tend to be that it's a bit heavy and the paint comes off the rims if you use the brakes. If you're going to run it fixed take off the back brake before you ride it first!

That said the hubs are Formula and the wheels are tough enough even for my lardy bulk on the mean streets of Sarf Landan.

Finishing kit is nicer than the Ridgeback/Genesis.

The Lemond wasn't available when I bought mine, but it looks pretty tasty and the boys at Brixton rate it.

  • kowalski the paint comes off the rims if you use the brakes.

Wha? Doesn't it have a machined braking surface on the rims that's devoid of paint?

  • No it doesn't!

It comes off in random patches and it it isn't machined underneath. Doesn't look too bad once youve worn a brake track....

Until you tension the chain. Then you start taking new bits of paint off.

The front doesn't look too bad, defo remove rear brake before riding.

  • This one does..

Do you (or does this one) have non-standard wheels?
