Thats not me thats my friend Anselm we were together though I was the one with the red and white rory o'brien fixie and the italian jersey. It was goo to see a few fixies doing those hills, my mate Addie was the only one of us that made the last hill though... I blame it on my gearing!!!

arup It was one long traffic jam
Sorry, that's cos i was at the front......

looks like even if you could do ditchling the walkers would get in the way

We went up Ditchling around 11.30 (ish) and didn't have too many problems riding up it (apart from its steepness). A lot of folks walking, riding slowly but still enough space to ride.
I suggest you lazy gits just get going earlier next year and stopping messing about so much :)
Hats off to anyone who did this fixed. The sheer volume of bikes in some places made it twice as hard as it should be.

A mate of mine did it, and was concerned at some of the marshalling at roundabouts, where two sets of marshalls - one for traffic, one for bikes - waved on both directions at the same time.
Cue some near misses and driver / rider interaction !I dont think I'd do it as it's just stupid busy. More than happy to do it in a smaller bunch.
If it's sunny.
And not windy.
Coz I'm soft. -

I wanna do it again this summer, just for the sake of getting up that sodding hill!

Yeah, I'd ride there again sans-30,000 others. Some nice roads down there..

I'm still on the waiting list :( have lived in Brighton for years now and have always wanted to do it just to get up Ditchling hill!

You would be better off just doing Ditchling by yourself if that is your motivation.
You probably will not be able to ride up Ditchling on the day of the ride for all the people pushing their bikes up the hill. -

We have around 90 people from our firm riding it. I have to show leadership. This entails not only riding it but making sure that I am first one down. Last year I managed to be on the beach by 9:08. This year it would be nice to break 9:00. I already have a couple of domestiques signed up but am looking for four or so more. Will mean leaving at 6:00 am and therefore being there well in advance. Firm does a barbeque on the beach and arranges transport of bikes back to London.

Avoiding it this year, too many people, and have done it twice now, once geared, once fixed.
Need a new challenge this year, so will attempt Dunwich -

I cycled there and back last year was good fun but just way to many people and loads of numpties trying to kill themselves

and loads of numpties trying to kill themselves
i'm tempted to go and see all the numpties - will remind me of my trip to work each day.
maybe a points based system could make it more interesting
10 points - for pushing a numpy off
20 points - for picking up a hot numpy
5 points - for each pint drank
7 points - for each pint drank while doing a skid -

I have always vowed I'd never touch this ride again with a barge pole, but I'm suddenly tempted. Do you think they'd let bikes on the train before 10am? If so I could make it back to London in time to get back into bed before the other half wakes up. Probably.

I thought they banned bikes on trains during the L2B?
Idiots.. imagine how much they could make from it and how much better it would be rather than choking Brighton with cars picking up riders. -

Idiots.. imagine how much they could make from it and how much better it would be rather than choking Brighton with cars picking up riders. They do, but I was wondering if they'd enforce the ban before 10. Or what about before 9? I could dash straight from Ditchling to the station... I think they probably would though. The buggers.
I think they probably do make a lot of money out of coaches though. I don't think you'd really get enough bikes on a train to make it worthwhile. I mean, there are thousands and thousands and thousands, aren't there? It's bad enough on the DD.

I'd plan to ride back, Emilia (or organise independent motorised transport, of course, but riding back is feasible given the medium distance). AFAIK all bike carriage is off on the day. It's an absolute scandal but apparently justified by appeal to a lack of rolling stock (although you know perfectly well that the real reason will be cost). I don't know if the BHF waded in there strongly when it first happened (from memory there was a near riot outside Brighton Station because a lot of people had no idea) but it's probably too late now. :(
