Yeah, I'm doing it on my road bike with some mates.
-
• #3
I might do it for fun. I'm not enrolled and I'm supposed to be at Hack Day, but if I get bored with that I'll grab the bike, jump the start line and see you on the way.

Don't do it at 9am! The roads get so jammed up it's ridiculous. Last year I started at 7.30 and that was bad enough. Unless you are going to the relaxing ride and are hitting the pubs one the way....
I thinking of doing it again, but looking to do a 6am start (more time for beers at the end).

When I did it on my own the first time it was the same weekend as the South of England Show and I got stuck right in the queues. There were big hedges on either side of the road so the only way to get ahead was to walk.
I am expecting it to be busy, but I have my info pack already, so don't know if I can change to another time. And you have to wear a helmet as well. I bought a cheapo one from Lidl which is sitting on the shelf ready for use.
I used to live in Brighton so have places where I can crash for the night and avoid the rush back.

Despite you regestering for a time you can just show up and go whenever you want. Last year I saw loads of people turning up on the day signing up there with £20 and getting a number and going.

Road biking it though, 6am start (which is 4.30am out of bed!!) and back via Surrey hills.
I'll be the lone slow guy in the London Dynamo kit that can't keep up or even find the pack.
Tempted to go SS, but me knees wouldn't make the return journey and I simply can't
imagine walking/pushing up Ditchling Beacon. The early start is vital tho unless u like doodling
along at sub 10mph and pushing up the slightest gradients. -

I agree with Photoben, there's no point to go before nine.
So who else is going then? If you see a dude with a jersey with the brazilian flag, say hi:)

• #9
See ya at 6am!
-
• #10
I'll probably be in Croydon Cycleworks kit.. red and black.. on a blue Ribble.. telling some guys on mountain bikes to hurry the fsck up! :)
-
• #11
i'm signed up for 8:30am. five-and-a-half years in england and this'll be the first time i'll be going to brighton.

i'm down for an 8am start, provided I've recovered after an over-the-handlebars moment this week... 9.5 for artistic impression, 0 for technical because of the poor landing :-(
Also the first time for me... how does Ditchling Beacon compare with Highgate West... surely not as steep?
-
• #13
Slightly steeper average grad, about 1.5x length
-
• #14
really that big???
oops sorry pissed , had to re-read, ditchling is a fucker, but done it twice on single speed 50/17 -
• #15
have to say that was 6 years ago......
-
• #16
Brighton virgin too. I've not climbed up Highgate either. But that's coz I'm a fat fsck and don't go out of my way to find hills.
7.30 start here but that's relying on me and some others turning up on time. -

Just posting to bring this back into discussions as the ride is this sunday.
I'll be starting at 8:30am. going fixed on the red condor. two other mates are going along (one with a beautiful fixed white peugeot, and the other on a tank of a mountainbike).
say hello if you see me.

I'm doing this with me lady friend, but we've received nothing from the ride organizers. They cashed our cheque which means we're officially in it but we've got no information. Tried phoning/email to avail.
So for a newbie, what advice do we need to know? Anything? We don't even know what start time we've been given etc.
-

you can turn up any time, and just join in , if unsure look which way from the park the riders go, go around and join them, done it about 4 times

insert lame excuse here...so I couldn't make it. Good to see you're still on the Bassets Snakes, greatest sweets in the world.
-
• #23
I used to live on Natural Confectionary Company 'lollies' (sweets) back in Oz. Coach got 'em in bulk for his riders to carry.
They are the same as these Bassetts ones but have a million different varieties. -

It was one long traffic jam

Just wondering if anyone is doing the BHF London to Brighton this year? Just thought it would be nice to hook up with some other fixed gear folks. Shame I missed out on the fgss ride as I've done it on my own twice now. I'm down for the 9.00am start.
