  • I am the law!

  • I saw Dredd last night. I was initially slightly disappointed but with hindsight I am less so. I still feel it didn't quite hit the spot for some reason.

It was a good adaptation that thankfully didn’t try to be too broad and didn't tickle overly with ‘cool shit’. It’s like a vignette, a day in the life of. I would however have liked a bit more of a tickle. Megacity One is full of weirdness and I didn’t particularly like the total inwardness of the interior setting.

In the comic Dredd is absolutely ruthless, to the the point that you wonder if he’s actually just a right righteous cunt. He’s emotionally vacant and relentless in his role. But here you feel that he has a personality and is maybe capable of lenience, which I didn’t enjoy so much. Comparing this to Sly Stallone’s effort is like comparing Casino Royale to Die Another Day; the former is gritty and plausible, the latter bombastic and borderline ridiculous. I just hope the next instalment doesn’t see Dredd go too multifaceted and soft.

  • looking forward to...

Midnights Children (might try and get tickets to see it at London Film Festival)

US extended version of The Shining due in cinemas Oct/Nov

In fact the LFF has some really good pics..

  • Dredd for me had nods to John Carpenter classics Assault and Escape. It also reminded me in tone (perhaps the overall colour palette) of early 90's post-Apocalyptic sci fi film Hardware. I liked it because it was like a retro 80's shooter - a real change from the likes of the Dark Knight films

  • Last night I watched Cockneys Vs Zombies.

    Fucking amazing.

It's got Brick-Top, the Bionic Woman and Pussy Galore in it! Plus Tom Good from The Good Life!

    Pure B movie win!

  • Dredd - very enjoyable, a proper comic book adaptation for a change

We're doing quite well for comic adaptations with this and Batman (and Watchmen).
Now we need to work on video game adaptations

  • John Carpenter all nighter, 21st October, Prince Charles. You lucky people

  • Premium Rush is good fun! - bit of Top Gun on wheels rivalry and a great bad guy performance from Michel Shannon (Boardwalk Empire). Much better than expected. Good start to a lazy Sunday :)

Your avin a giraffe.........Its utter shite and totally irresponsible.

  • haha yes totally irresponsible and totally shite - just like fast and furious or gone in 60 seconds. Both fun films if you're in the right mood and don't take it all too seriously.

I'd never advocate riding like that in real life just like I wouldn't expect or advocate 'tokyo drifting' round aldgate roundabout. Good stupid fun if that's not too contradictory :)

It was Michael Shannon's loony turn that got me chuckling most.

  • Did anyone go and see moonrise kingdom?

I missed it at the cinema, waiting patiently for it to come out on DVD. Worth the wait?

  • Saw Dredd, and enjoyed it. Great style kept me hooked. Urban's chin out acting Stallone also a plus.

Anyone saying they copied Raid can go watch Game Of Death and STFU.

  • ^^ I saw Moonrise Kingdom at the cinema and I really loved it.

  • Yeah moonrise kingdom is lovely, such a great movie.

Saw the sweeney and lawless today.

The sweeney was no bad, ending was a bit of a anti climax tho.

Lawless was again ok, but I found it very long and was getting restless near the end!

  • Watched The Imposter last night.

Great film/documentary. Can't believe how so many people were manipulated.....

Saw this last night too, as others have said it's very good. The way the story was built up then deconstructed was particularly compelling, and the subject, well he was obviously a card.

They're weren't the most switched on of families though...

Very much looking forward to this.

  • ^^^ & ^^^^ good to know I'm not getting excited for no reason! Cheers!

  • ^^ I said I'd never watch another jjjjwwwwaaakkkiiiimmmeee pheonix film after 'im still here'... but I might just have to, that looks well good.

  • Dredd - very enjoyable, a proper comic book adaptation for a change

I really like Dredd - thought they did much better than the last attempt to being Dredd to the big screen. Urban does Dredd effortlessly, its a shame he doesn't get many leading roles. Plus seeing Olivia Thirlby doing something quite different for her was also good.

I missed it in the cinema to, DVD is out 1st October so not long to wait.

Yes 'The Master' does look good. Going to have the scientologists up in arms.

Hahaha 'I'm Still Here' was meant to be a big hoax. The amount of trouble they went through to pull it off is amazing. Pure genius.

The other film I watched last week was 'Premium Rush' - which amazingly is way better than I expected. Firstly they got all the terminology right, and didn't make anything up. I think JGL was actually riding fixed! The skids were impressive, the effect gimmick with the routes at junctions I thought was a nice touch. (I wish I could do that.) Michael Shannon was great too. Plot wise not amazing, but works quite well. Set in near realtime, but with flashbacks.

  • new robocop looks shit

just looks like a guy in a suit not a proper robot

  • Rust and Bone saw the trailer at the cinema the other day and have to say it looks wonderful.

Plus I absolutely love marion cotillard!

  • new robocop looks shit

just looks like a guy in a suit not a proper robot

I think it looks ok, I think you are forgetting that Robocop was actually just a man in a suit too. But they also used CG in many scenes. Reminds me of Deus-Ex style cyborg implants. Which is better conceptually than putting a brain into a machine.

  • I'm not forgetting anything he's a full blown cyborg, not 'just a man in a suit'

  • new robocop looks like old batman

just looks like a guy in a batman suit

    *

  • just looks like a guy in a Metal Gear Solid Ninja suit

    ftfy
