  • You do neither and watch a film you haven't seen instead

    Wrong.

One of my greatest pleasures is revisiting films. They are the comfort blankets of my childhood, my babysitters, girlfriends I didn't have and girlfriends I thought I had, events I watched with a crowd and epiphanies I experienced in solitude.

Films are a generation's 'playing out', and I love to visit familiar fields as much as I enjoy exploring new woods.

  • I've just watched The Boston Strangler.

Fuck me, they couldn't possibly make that film today!

Daring and opinionated, radical and shocking so for the era, the parts were played with sensitivity and skill by some truly legendary actors. I am honestly blown away by it.

    Fresh, 60's style.

You liked the Boston Strangler so I recommend The Sweet Smell Of Success and Seconds.

  • Nothing sets me tingling like recommendations I've never heard of!

    Excellent, and repped.

  • I've never had that dilemma. I only have Kevin and Perry on DVD.

  • The sweet smell of success is excellent

  • I agree with GL; I watched Godfather I on BluRay this evening. Fucked if I was going to take a chance on some shitty Sky Movies pick instead.

  • The Boston Strangler.

    Psycho

  • Careful editing can make anything creepy, Oliver.

It wouldn't sound good in court, I admit, but I swear I was somewhere else when that happened to her.

  • ^ I'm gonna watch the 1978 Dawn of the Dead right now just because

    Looking forward to The Imposter

  • Never heard of The Imposter, but now I've read the blurb it sound very interesting.

Don't know what movie to watch tonight. The missus has hinted about going out for a meal, but I honestly can't be arsed. I'd rather rustle up something myself than pay through the nose for a suspect meal, and I hate paying fifteen quid for a three quid bottle of plonk.

Anyone seen any movies on telly tonight?

  • Just watched Tyrannosaur, fucking grim but compulsive viewing.

Olivia Colman blows me away in that, strong stuff.

A Prophet about to start on 4.

  • I didn't know she was in A Prophet. Will watch it now.

A jolly romp it isn't. Great acting and extremely bleak. Still don't know if I enjoyed it though. Left me feeling pretty uncomfortable.

Actually hurts to watch in places. Olivia Coleman's acting in that film can only be described as the real fucking deal.

  • ^^ She's not, but don't let that stop you.

  • no shit

  • Silent Souls is interesting.

It's about love, death and all but extinct customs around that in rural central Russia. It's no bucket of fun, but only 70something mins.

The cinematography is dreamy and the story telling nice. I liked it.

Don't they have any BYOB restaurants up there?

  • I've just watched TDKR and was pleasantly surprised.

Of the three Nolan films I though that this was the best. The Bane character was a little on the weak side and won't get Tom Hardy a posthumous Oscar if he decides to get back on the pipe and kill himself, but Marion Cotillard was good enough and Anne Hathaway was hardly challenged in her role. Sir Maurice Micklewhite was his usual self and Gary Oldman impressed too.

CB never really fails to live down to expectation in any role since Patrick Bateman or the scrawny one from The Machinist.

All in all I rather liked it. A bit of harmless fun for a Monday evening.

Incidentally, Bane's voice was inspired by this fella:

  • The Descendents last night. Thought that it was great - Clooney did and good job and the younger daughter was well cast. Enjoyable film for a Sunday evening.

  • Boston Strangler is exceptional...

Try the Original Taking of Pelham 123. Class movie. Brilliant humour. Excellent cast. There was something else I wanted to suggest but I can't remember it...

Ridley Scot movie, some guy in a trenchcoat... rains a lot....

On a more modern tip- "The Way of the Gun" is brilliant. James Caan on top form. As to Russian movies, 'The Return' was very good...

  • The Skin I Live In. Can't believe I left it so long (had the doovd for ages), brilliant film. Anthony Bandana's a dish.

  • Madagascar 3

    Film of 2012. Fact.

  • Watched the Bourne Legacy today and I have to say I was disappointed with it. Really poor and it felt like it went on forever too!

Not the worst film but I won't be rushing back to watch it again soon tho.

  • watching the x files on film 4

this is two hours of my life i would sue to get back.

  • Just watched Wings of Desire at an open-air cinema.

Forgot how strange and brilliant it was, didn't realise how much better the strange swooping panning cameras would look on a big screen.

    Top film
