  • the scene from the bonkers brazilian christmas tv show was my favourite though. it's like that simpsons episode where bart's watching a spanish language kids show featuring tastle-twirling strippers, dancing elephants, glitter expolosions and inexplicably and man dressed as a giant dancing bug. oy oy oy. no me gusta!

That was pretty great. I bet he whispered something utterly filthy. I know I was thinking that.

re the rest : Let's not forget it was a portrait of the man. Not the sport. . And as previously stated, perhaps they didn't have much interesting footage / sound bites from people who knew Ayrton, talking about Mansell et al. So yeah, you're right to say that it's being aimed at a much wider audience than just pure F1 fans. I'm sure there's DVD's aplenty for that market.
In total agreement about the quality of the footage. Tech wizards shoulda sorted HD out along time ago.

  • Yep, still looks immaculate. Love it. Oh and my Mum's in it, by the way.

Your mum's in it?! It's one of my faves.

  • Josh Jovovich ?
    ; )

  • Josh oldman? ;)

  • Yep, still looks immaculate. Love it. Oh and my Mum's in it, by the way.

Really? What part does she play?

  • I've heard rumours they are remaking some John Carpenter classics.
They Live, which is fucking awesome
Escape from NY, why? It's brilliant.

They have been rumors of them re-making 'The Thing' and 'They Live' for years but they never happen. So don't worry about it.

Yeah you got me interested too now. Who is she in the movie?

  • id' go further and say that it's almost exclusively aimed at non F1 fans.

This basically sums it up for me. Though to be fair it's what expected of a film shown at cinemas. Which is why I made the point of why it would probably be better suited to a tv documentry lasting a few episodes. However it was good to see some footage that i'd never seen before, such as the trackside footage of the Ratzenberger crash at Imola. I know it reads a bit sadistic to say that it was good to see that, but i'm sure you get what I mean.

I'm going to be disappointed unless she's Korben's mum.

  • yeah it was good. i'm just being uber picky. i enjoyed it.

Looks like The Thing remake is a prequel and has actually happened :(

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0905372/

    A shame really...

  • oh man that had better be good, looks like they are just expanind the bit before - how uninspired

  • Barry Humphries (aka Dame Edna Everage) will be portraying Goblin King in The Hobbit. Excellent casting me thinks.

OMG - just read the imdb entry. It's a remake with a female character in the lead. The other character names are the same, plus the scenario is identical.

Lets just hope they don't apply the same formula to the 'They Live' remake, a woman playing Roddy Pipper's character just couldn't work.

  • [...] The Bandit Queen anyone? I'm looking to expand my Indian film collection from just the 2 films that I have at the moment (The Warrior and Slumdog Millionaire). Any other recommendations? I'm not much for the traditional singing and dancing stuff. [...]

When originally released, and rewatching recently, I found "The Bandit Queen" to be a very interesting and powerful film (with the bonus of a soundtrack by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan).

I can recommend plenty of "singing and dancing" films; but here are some non-"singing and dancing" films I have enjoyed that I can immediately think of at the moment:

  • Barry Humphries (aka Dame Edna Everage) will be portraying Goblin King in The Hobbit. Excellent casting me thinks.

Agreed. Love Barry Humphries. Don't forget Sir Les Patterson mind.

  • ^^looks like it's a prequel 'The Thing serves as a prelude to John Carpenter's classic 1982 film of the same name.' - probably the back story with the norweigians. i know it will be awful, maybe on par with the wicker man remake

  • The other character names are the same, plus the scenario is identical.

I take that back the character names are not the same. So perhaps it is more prequel than re-make. Maybe even the events at the Norwegian camp, we'll know more in october.

@MacReady - Is your username based on Russell's character in 'The Thing' took me a moment to notice the spelling. Or just coincidence?

Hah, yeah it is. My avatar is Kurt but I'm guessing you don't have them turned on.

Can't help but think they are making the film for the sake of it, just feels a little forced.

No. This film will actually serve as a prequel to the 1982 movie The Thing, as the film will detail the events that took place in the Norwegian camp from that film. According to the screenwriter, painstaking care has been taken to assure that the prequel will take into account all the details about the Norwegians and their camp as seen in the original movie. The movie will end where the original film begins. However, other sources say that this movie will also continue where the original story ended.

  • it can't be as bad as the Wicker Man remake, that fuckign thing is an abomination.

The footage of the prequel Thing iv seen is pretty much average.
plotwise its going to be dogshit.
but then JCs The Thing was slated, underperformed and written off for years, only in the last 5-10 has it been seen more of a cult classic.
Ive been a JC fanboi for years, i even like Ghosts of Mars D: (although Escape from LA is inexcusable)

  • Hah, yeah it is. My avatar is Kurt but I'm guessing you don't have them turned on.

Haha I keep meaning to turn them on, so I just have.

  • @ MacReady / Fasih / jv
I like the original and a mate is a HUGE fan.
We both seen a Teaser for it. Gotta say it looks good. It will never be the original, but it's a very well made TSR. Which is a start.

  • JC is tops. His sountracks are so atmospheric and simple and define his films. They Live is so clever and creepy, Assault on precinct 13 is raw, sparse with an amazing moral core, , and the genre mashup Big trouble in Little china, exhilarating. There is genius in all his films though less in his later ones.

  • Just been watching 'Hall Pass', something to have on in the background whilst i did some work. All well and good, nice average middle of the road comedy, then out of the blue at 56mins we get totally unnecessary lingering shots of penises!
doesn't add anything to the film, is the new shock thing in films? Just insert a few cock shots in?!
I mean its rated 15! you couldn't even see someone getting shot in 15's when i was a kid!

  • Watched this earlier today. Amazingly nihilistic. Once again Vincent Cassell is astounding!
