Speaking to my daughters recently about films and cinema..
I’m dead strolling most on my waking hours.. not sure I can sit through a film on a big screen for more than an hour, tbh
attention span of a gnat, it’s small screen with several intervals / breaks
I fear that I might go that way

Sorry what did you say? I got distracted halfway through your first sentence

New aliens teaser trailer looks good, hopefully it’s scary and got the same vibe as aliens or aliens

If you are in London, see my post above about watching Dune at the Battersea Power Station cinema....

Dream Scenario was great. Love Nic Cage’s renaissance.

I read that he googled himself and was shocked that he just turned into a meme. So he is trying
to get out more quality again and have more naturalistic performances.
He was getting himself out of a hole after he lost so much money in 2008 but is doing OK again. -

I'm in London but very much the opposite side to Battersea. I think I'll try out the new PictureHouse at Finsbury Park.

Watched the first Dune at home and the second at the cinema (Finsbury Park Picture House was pretty nice with the added bonus that in the 250 seat screen there were 10 people at most).
It all looked nice and did a good job of telling a pretty complicated story but it just didn't feel very exciting. Possibly because I know the plot but there didn't really feel to be much tension at any point. Think I preferred the Lynch version.

Another upboat for ‘Poor Things’ (on Disney+).
As others have said, very weird, but I didn’t find it pretentious and was completely captivated and never bored. The whole look and the way it was filmed gave it so much character. Most of all I just absolutely loved the humour. Some fantastic lines and all expertly delivered.

The Wiz, tonight on BBC 2, all star musical cast - Diana Ross, MJ, Quincy Jones, Luther Vandross, Ashford & Simpson. It’s underrated.

Oh my god. The Iron Claw. Absolutely wrecked me. I didn’t know anything about the story and purposefully watched no trailers for it. Oh my god. Up there with sadness levels of Manchester by the Sea and Grave of the Fireflies for me.

Went to see Antarctica 3d at the IMAX at the science museum on Saturday with the kids.
Haven't seen a 3d film for years, so was quite surprised at how realistic the 3d effect was in parts. There's a lot of stairs to go up FFS...

Robot Dreams (2023), heart-warming animation, no dialogue!

Agree with the talk about Nic Cage seeming to have turned his shit gurning ways around in recent movies and doing a decent acting job again.
thankfully for those who will miss his antics, Connor McGregor seems to have taken up the mantle and was entire unwatchable in an otherwise mostly fun Road House.
did he just emperors new clothes everyone on set? you can see the character he is going for (which would have made an excellent villain) except he just jerkily bowls around like a harry enfield scouser gurning like an idiot and somehow failing to be able to speak in his own accent 90% of the time.

Seen Ghostbusters Frozen Empire the other night, its was cheesy, nostalgic and I did enjoy it.
My only gripe was it had too many characters shoe horned in! Not as good as the classics but worth watching

Connor McGregor
Really? That Connor McGregor?

25 secs onwards

Yeah he was terrible and that full film was a mess, not a patch on the original!
-
• #20722
Haha, I watched this the other night and thought exactly the same thing. It really did seem like he was doing an Irish accent.

• #20723
Yeah, agreeing with all on the new Roadhouse. Wouldn't waist your time, has nothing on the OG swayzeee. Though saying that, I haven't seen in donkeys years, might have to refresh the memory soon

Just finished and enjoyed Blue Ruin on prime, nice revenge flick. Liked the lead

On the topic of Roadhouse, has anyone got any recommendations for fun, dumb 80s/90s/early 2000s action films? I promise you I've seen the biggies so looking for something off the beaten track (but not so much off the beaten track that it's impossible to find).
I'm coming down with a cold on the first day of the bank holiday and want to cheer myself up/rot my brain.
Perfect Days. Firmly in the Paterson and Columbus mould of absolutely nothing happening, but very much enjoyed it.
The weekday afternoon screening with 1 other person in the cinema was a nice bonus.
