Finally watched Oppenheimer. Well made with an interesting setting, but it's really about office politics.

Enjoyed Banksy - Exit Through the Gift Shop the other week.

The last one wasn’t terrible, I don’t know if it was the nostalgia of a new one or that I loved it but it was a lot better than say Indy Jones!
-

Indy is the same. I keep watching them, but they're getting more and more worser.

I didnt feel that with the ghostbusters tbh, although the new one could potentially be crap. I thought afterlife was good!
Indy especially the newest one was rotten and I wanted to love it, but it felt like they just went too far on this occasion that it became ridilcous

I'd need to watch the newer Ghostbusters again. I think I've only bothered once because I'd rather watch the original again to be honest. Even the seq

I really like the sequel!

Watched Dune 1 again last night in preparation for Dune 2, it almost felt like I was seeing it for the first time, could it have been that forgettable? It is beautiful to look at but it's sooooo bloody slow. And I much prefer Kyle McLachlan's Paul Atreidis, Timmy Chalamet is a bit lightweight, no? And nowhere near as likeable as a screen presence.

Did you like Ghostbusters afterlife?

Will watch American Fiction again. Great film.
Did zone of interest the other night. Hoo boy. Incredible. Everyone should see it. Extraordinary, bleak and the soundscape is just amazing.

Need to watch American Fiction. Ditto Zone of Interest. Mind-blowing.

Dune 2 looks amazing sound design is great but it's Def lost that creepy/odd shit I loved from the 1st one in the 80s. It's almost to clean. I still enjoyed it though and can see it being a good bored Sunday film to go to. Hoping to get zone in this week. I worked with the editor on other stuff and seeing the film get the awards is great as he really is a lovely guy.

Dune part 2 at the cinema yesterday. Maybe i overhyped it for myself, maybe it’s cos I’ve read the book and already had some of these massive set pieces in my head, but i was hugely underwhelmed. Felt like it just didn’t bother to make the potentially epic bits epic and put focus on more minor shit. It was all a bit disjointed and managed to simultaneously feel overlong and rushed.
V trifling matter but couldn’t help but be annoyed by the inconsistency with which they applied blue to the freeman character’s eyes. Did they run out of blue cgi budget or something?

I really enjoyed American Fiction. It's been an unbelievably good year for film so far! I've not seen anything that's come out this year that hasn't been a 4* plus on Letterboxd I don't think (apart from The Beekeeper but I knew what I was getting in to).
Followed it up with Strange Way Of Life, a short film by Pedro Almodóvar. If it was a full length film and more competently made, there could be something there. It was all very shallow and a bit crap though. The performances, lightning, costumes etc were all a bit Hollyoaks. Bit of a shame.

I enjoyed American Fiction earlier too, followed up by the creator, which was fine.

Can't really understand the love for American Fiction. We found it really dull and unfunny, after 40 mins it was pretty much done. Writing novels is a get rich quick scheme now is it?! Lol. Tired and formulaic. Just glad we didn't pay to see it.
-
• #20673
Do you think the film was about writing novels?
-
• #20674
No. But that's part of the premise, which was fine. I just thought it was poorly executed. Glacially slow.
An upper middle-class family full of Doctors couldn't afford the care costs of an elderly family member, so he's got to write trashy novels for White America to get cash fast? Erm, what?!

I went to see it today, loved it, I take it all back!
I cannot possibly agree, but that's everyones opinion on films. Some love em and some hate em!
