I really disliked the new Matrix - struggling to think of any redeeming features.
Over half the film was boringly written expository dialogue. Crap fight choreography, no sense of jeopardy or tension, and all the self referential "humour" was so on the nose it made me cringe.
It was like Channel 5 somehow acquired the rights to make the sequel.

Aww man, I still really want to see the new Matrix but these reviews :/

Aye the new matrix I turned off half way through. Shite. Just seemed a copy of the old ones but slightly fancier looking.

I sort of wish I'd done this tbh but I have such fond feelings for the first one I really wanted it to redeem itself

The first one was good and it held you, I mean its no oscar winner but its enjoyable that new one looks great but i found it so boring and it was almost repetitive. Shame as usually keanu is in solid films

That wasn't what I meant, as in story wise. Its never going to win best film and looks dated now.

Just watched Don’t Look Up on Netflix. Funny, sad, pertinent, awful, poignant. Didn’t think I’d enjoy it but was gripped 👍🏼

It was like Channel 5 somehow acquired the rights to make the sequel.
And then let a bunch of Summer interns write and direct.

I don't think that's true at all, it's very consistent with their other output except for the first Matrix film. Once they had the success to do what they want it's all pretty shit.

Checks out but would add in Bound as being decent pre OG Matrix and it all not ending well
-
• #18689
I knew somebody would mention that but I don't like it, every other scene goes to slow motion
for no reason. -

Fair point. I use the first Matrix as my reference, as 2 and 3 don't bear mentioning.

Trawling through channels, just stopped on Hot Fuzz. And almost instantly reminded about one of best cinema experiences, everything aligned.
I live in Hereford. Until relatively recently, we had a single screen with proper tip up velvet seats. We were out with my my mum, went for early doors pizza (was proper Italian owned, Hereford United photos on the wall, both sadly no longer). Pizza was everything we wanted and passed the cinema on the way to the car, a film was starting soon and we went it (as far as I’m concerned, being spontaneous has its time and place but this was Hereford on a Tuesday, normal rules didn’t apply). We didn’t know what we were doing, the film, and it was Hot Fuzz, was about to start, no expectations, joyous.
I had a point when I started but it’s lost in memories and feelings, I guess time and place is key.
Question is, which should I watch first, Point Break (no holds barred adrenaline thrill ride) or Bad Boys 2 (not so much)?

Add in that I recently discovered that my boss’ FiL is in Hot Fuzz

Everyone really rating this it seems yet I've seen some absolutely dire reviews in the media

• #18694
I enjoyed it, but I'm a sucker for Jennifer Lawrence. Its essentially a big budget black mirror episode

OG Point Break or remake?
If it's Keanu, everytime.
If remake, don't bother with either.

There's a remake?!
Speaking of which, saw the whole of OG West Side Story a couple of days ago on TV. So hammy but such a great film. Strong childhood nostalgia but the first time I'd seen it in maybe 30 years, so felt different too. Amazing how little dialogue there is. No desire to see the Spielberg.

There's a remake?!
Of sorts.
It is atrocious and not worth your timeEdit: Fast and Furious 1 is a PB remake too , but at least is entertainingly bad

• #18698
The remake is awful.

Really don't understand the bad reviews, I thought it was great. Probably the first Netflix movie I liked and finished.

Bit surprised people had high expectations for the new Matrix film. The first one was great on first view but hasn't held up well, the sequels were total shite. Maybe i'm just slightly jaded as they spawned all the terrible physical actor wire work action sequences that plagued Hollywood until Bourne came along and nutted them all in the face. Also disagree with Keanu being generally solid. Like him, Love the first JW and Speed is still top 3 cinema trips for me but about 70% of his work is crap IMO.
Recent film ratings:
Spiderman: Anti-immigration - entertaining, reports it's as good as endgame are way overblown. given strength of previous spiderman films it was a strong showing though.
7/10
Ghostbusters: Afterlife - enjoyed more than spiderman, felt very spin-off'y but was a decently made film in its own right, bit schmaltzy at the end but I was down with it. actually felt like a continuation of the originals after it was all said and done, needed more ghosts though.
8.5/10
Resident Evil: live-action cutscene - utter shite, just a retreading of the original games adding nothing of value, expects the audience to cum in their pants because they keep mentioning the characters names even though they're all identical personalities.
4/10
Matrix - Let's resurrect another trilogy - film is all build up and ends when the story properly re-starts. if they're going to drag it out this much i'd rather it was a tv show.
