  • If we are going back to Dances with Wolves, we may as well mention the Dead Man and Tombstone.

Fuck the two Tarantino efforts though.

  • TBF I've probably only watched it once when I was too young too appreciate it, much like a full susser of the time.

  • Open Range is a great western with a lovely romance thrown in.

  • Admittedly needed youtube for a bit of explanation for Arrival

I did the same and was not aware of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis prior to this movie.

  • It's the film that made making Western's OK again and won a boat load of oscars, definitely has a place in Western hall of fame

  • On the subject of good westerns

I love “the quick and the dead”

It’s a bit gimmicky but Sam raimi enthusiasts will get a lot from it.

    Cracking cast too

  • I learned from that film that if you someone gets shot you can actually see all the way through their body.

  • Yeah, maybe a long and slack before it's time film.

  • Arrival - Amazing
    Sicario - Cracker
Enemy - thought it was absolutely shite
Prisoners - Another cracker and I advent seen the last one.

  • Watched moxie on Netflix. super woke teen thing but got me right in the almost feels. Not sure it was the intention but the fact that I thought the nothing but a nice guy love interest was about to turn bad at some point may have been a glimpse into no tall men.

  • I urge you to watch Incendies ,It is fantastic.

  • Saw Promising Young Woman last night, topical, very good, could have been better but had me gripped all the way through.

  • I watched Black Power: A British Story of Resistance last night. It's a pretty well made documentary and it made me realise how little I actually knew about the Black Power movement in the UK. It's recent history but I'd barely heard of any of the people or organisations involved. I guess I was too busy learning about the corn laws and Chartism in history at school.
It's free to watch on the BBC for the next year I think.

  • I remember watching a good documentary about Michael de Freitas a while back, not sure if it was BBC. The Windrush Chronicles are worth a look too.

  • I've been going through the Kurosawas again. We just re-watched Yojimbo - is there any purer pleasure than the first 30 minutes of that film before it gets Real? - anyway we ended up googling a few people and that 6'8" dude, the guy with the hammer, is still alive, 102 years old, and 100% a problem every single one of us is going to have to deal with sooner or later.

    Tsunagorô Rashômon: absolute boss.

  • They Live -Now on netflix.

  • Nice! I haven't seen it in years.

  • Anyone looking for a proper hnnnng horror experience should check out "honeydew".

It's still pissing straight into my mind.

  • Godzilla vs Kong is a lot of fun.

  • How important is having seen previous instalments?
I saw Kong Skull island when it was new, and haven't seen Godzilla KoM

  • Not important at all.

  • Absolutely shitacious weather up here in Edinburgh today after a gorgeous sunny day yesterday, so a pretty varied film day was just the ticket

    Life of Brian
    Lost in Translation
    Arrival

  • Run - on Netflix.
    Misery with Munchausens by proxy.
    It's ok

  • The Nice Guys - I think I liked it, was light hearted fun
The Life of David Gale - Interesting premise, liked it but for watching young Spacey by sleazy made me uncomfortable given all the allegations against him

  • watching the trailer for Dune again and noticed they refer to a "Crusade" rather than "Jihad", which smacks of annoying levels of Jesuswashing. Wonder what other inconvenient terms they'll dispense with in service of not upsetting middle america?

    dissapointing.
