  • Frozen River is good in my opinion.

  • Thanks for all the snowy film suggestions. Obviously all the snow round here as melted now but it was fun whilst it lasted. I guess I could watch them without snow outside if push comes to shove.

  • melted

    Wizard of Oz then.

  • One more for you: Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter
    https://m.imdb.com/title/tt3263614/

  • So now you want slushy mud films?

  • Surprised nobody has mentioned Ravenous
Let the right one in (original Swedish version)
    Pontypool
    The Revenant
Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (Finnish black comic horror about the "reality" behind the Santa Claus myth that I can't describe without spoilers but you should watch it)
Trollhunter (OK, clearly I have a thing for Scandie black comedy horror films set in the snow)

    Empire Strikes Back, of course.

  • Waterworld is just warm snow really.

  • Scrooged
    Gremlins

(Sorry, ltc, but I'm now stuck on thinking about snow/winter set films that I liked. Guess I'll keep it inside my head from now on)

  • I watched ANOTHER ROUND / DRUK (2020) instead. thomas vinterberg film about four teachers who start microdosing alcohol to combat their mid life crises. starring mads mikkelsen on top form. it was surprisingly affecting in places

  • I've got that waiting to go but not sure if I want to watch it when I'm not drinking.

  • ANOTHER ROUND / DRUK

looks interesting. does it end on a positive note?

  • yeah.... it really made me want a drink. suggestion is a helluva drug

  • Runaway Train - 1985.

Good shout, now i need to go watch Best of the Best again.

    "Just pop it!"

  • Based on a book called The Hoods by Harry Grey, well worth reading if you can find a copy.

  • Got round to watching Mank at the weekend - did enjoy, although I think the cigarette burns were a retro step too far.
Need to re-watch Citizen Kane now.

  • New Batman being filmed in the old tram tunnel under Kingsway, just south of Holborn today. Vast number of crew. Just missed R-Patz though :-(

  • Robat Battenbat.

  • Id definitely give Another Round a plug as well...really light hearted first half then goes a bit darker but ending gets the balance about right

  • The Dig was pretty good.

Basically Detectorists 1939 with a bit more schmaltz.

  • The Goob on iPlayer is very good., BBC say it’s an atmospheric drama about a Norfolk teenager, which is about right.

  • For £5.99 you can do worse than subscribing to Disney for a month's shit weather/lockdown entertainment. Soul was pretty great and ticked my musical box for the weekend. Free Solo on the Nat Geo channel bolt on as well. Got through the Star Wars trilogy whilst doing chores and on the trainer. Still a fan but shame it's the later rereleases.

Looking forward to watching the OG Amazing Spiderman cartoons.

  • It doesn't get much better than early 70s Walter Matthau-
