I got very emotional with Arrival, but kept it in secret.
I don’t know why, but the important phone call to certain person always breaks me.
Probably just the combination of music, acting and the message of the movie.
I’ll check the Togo mainly for Dafoe!

Arrival is very emotional! Togo is trying to be but is utter shit, wouldn't have registered without a hangover. Definitely wouldn't recommend it, despite being a Dafoe fab.

decent light hearted stuff
The Personal Life of David Copperfield
The Guard (Cracking performance from Brendan Gleeson, here because you also said "action films", funny film)
Spirited Away
Isle of Dogs (Jeff Goldblum, Bill Murray, Edward Norton and Bryan Cranston as the voices of a pack of stray dogs on a mission)
The ArtistSince The Artist is French (although the only bits of spoken dialogue are in English)... if you don't mind subtitles (or have good French), Delicatessen is a gentle-spirited farce, even if the theme is post-apocalyptic, so a black comedy. It's on Amazon Prime. I would also recommend Le Diner de Cons ("The Dinner Game" is a polite translation, "The Dinner for Moronic Cunts" would be more accurate) as one of the funniest French films ever made but I don't think it's streamed anywhere legal now. Oh, tell a lie, it is on Amazon Prime but you have to go to Amazon.com, not .co.uk, to find it.
Since I've recommended Isle of Dogs, the most accessible film Wes Anderson has ever made and better than Fantastic Mr Fox, cautious recommendation of The Grand Budapest Hotel. Mostly high-paced farce, stand-out performance from Ralph Fiennes, but some people will find it, well, a bit arch. "More accessible than The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" is for some people a low bar that they won't step over.

The Guard sounds great! Not heard of it before. I like Brendan Gleeson.
Will check out the French recommendations as well, I don't mind subtitles at all.
I like Wes Anderson a lot and I enjoyed Isle of Dogs a lot but haven't seen it since it came out so due a rewatch!

Watched the first Wonder Woman, seeing her in rage mode is badass but otherwise the movie
is pretty weak. Also her shoes are stupid. -

Watch the Straight Story. It’s fucking wonderful.

Yeah yeah. You just get a boner for Sting in a codpiece (but then, who wouldn't?)

Nocturnal Animals reminded me of Mulholland drive. Similar dream style, graphic, but obviously not a as good as a Lynch film.

I've seen NA but cant remember if I thought it was good. Clearly not as I cant remeber.

if you're going to watch dune, make sure you watch the fan edit that puts in a number of deleted scenes etc and makes the thing a whole lot more coherent

Does anyone know of ANY English subtitles for Dead Mans Shoes that actually say what the actors are saying? Every single one I've found is utter garbage!

I watched The Equalizer. Was good fun, didn't feel like it took itself too seriously and didn't scrimp on the ridiculous kills. Felt like Taken (but with a decent actor as the lead) with a soupçon of Home Alone.
Arrival and Sicario have have been two of my favourite cinema experiences in recent years.
Villeneuve/Johannsson as strong a pairing as Mann/Spinotti who i've already banged on about. Also think Bradford Young is a big talent.
