  • not a bad film debut

    Was that actually his debut?

  • WW84 Jesus fuck no

  • Bit long and tbh boring, sadly wasn't a patch on the 1st one which I think was great but was surprised when I watched it that it was good.

  • Finally got round to watching The Death of Stalin. Wow, what an absolute stinker of a film. So disappointing.

  • I got the feeling they enjoyed making it a lot more than I enjoyed watching it.

It played in that literary Russian whimsical, bureaucratic humour that’s like nails on a blackboard for me.

  • It’s definitely not for everyone. Wife hated it at the cinema.

I think it’s got a lot of similarities to older British farces.

  • Jumanji 2
    Pile of wank.

It seems you need to be very familiar with the previous instalment (which I was not) and lent heavily on you caring about characters given a cursory introduction.

  • Christmas Day was raining here, so I took the opportunity to introduce my toddler offspring to the magic of Wallace and Gromit and the Wrong Trousers.
    Still so very good

  • Jumanji 2 : Pile of wank, was indeed a bit messy. Shame because the first reboot was fairly entertaining. My children still shout out, "Rations! Get your rations!" at random intervals.

  • Rocks is a tough but brilliant watch

  • Why didn't you like Death of Stalin?

  • I just didn't find it funny, I think I chuckled twice. Reminded me of when the Coen Brothers really misfire.

    Looked really nice though.

  • The Intouchables was more enjoyable than i thought it would be. I remember hearing it was problematic (pretty thin on the race and disability elements) but after a stressful Christmas day it provided a very warm end to the day. Already a fan of Francois Cluzet, will look out for more stuff from Omar Sy.

Christmas viewing has been pretty shite so in the spirit of everything older is better i've just signed up for a free trial of MGM classics. Currently enjoying Frank Langella camping it up in Masters of the Universe.

  • Already a fan of Francois Cluzet

That one where his wife goes missing is awesome. Book adaptation.

  • Tell No One.

  • Yeah, not perfect but a really good action thriller.

  • I didn't care for it either. I'm usually a big Iannucci fan but couldn't get into The Death of Stalin. Most people I've spoken to about it enjoyed it though, maybe it's just not for me.

  • I'm usually a big Iannucci fan

Me too. It started fairly well and I thought it looked promising. Sadly it just remained really flat for me

  • Speaking of Iannucci, watched his version of David Copperfield on Christmas Day. Wasn’t expecting to enjoy it, but actually a solid 7/10.

  • lent heavily on you caring about characters given a cursory introduction.

I feel like this is a common trend in modern Hollywood blockbusters. And always leaves me not giving a single shit. Extreme peril paired with characters I don’t care about is a sure fire recipe for apathy.

  • Also, I loved the death of Stalin - but also see how it doesn’t work for some people.

Loved Iannucci’s David Copperfield too. Maybe I’m just an apologist.

  • This thread is full of bourgeois revisionists, that's the problem.

  • Tangerine. Really good, liked it a lot
