  • this reeks of frank miller.

    out.

  • That’s what I was thinking, Frank Miller x Todd Phillips.

I’m in, I like that dark twisted sick humour on film.

  • yeah i'm not sure i'm up for another slice of "rich man spends his inherited wealth on discovering new and innovative ways to kick the bejesus out of non-rich people because the poors hurt his fee fees" libertarian fellating shitcake.

which is a problem that exists at the core of the batmanman narrative.

  • Project Power was decent, for a Netflix film

  • For what it's worth it seems like a pretty different take on Bruce Wayne. Seems like they've turned the Riddler into a maniac as well, so Paul Dano could be a hoot to watch

  • Paul Dano is always a hoot to watch.

  • "rich man spends his inherited wealth on discovering new and innovative ways to kick the bejesus out of non-rich people because the poors hurt his fee fees"

They addressed this momentarily quite well in Batman Begins. Tom Wilkinson tells him to quit his self righteous dogoodery as he knows nothing about real pain or struggle but then they just moved on so he could beat some people up. There's elements of empathy like when BM tells Harvey dent to think twice about beating up on the paranoid schizophrenic hood but he never seems to apply this logic to his own battles.

I agree though, the narrative is broke.

  • Review from a usually reliable source

  • I'd never seen some of the scenes in the final cut (surfboard theft, weird French colonial part).

    I enjoyed it a lot.

  • I bought a used copy of the Redux dvd on eBay last week, I’m saving it for a rainy night when I’ve got the house to myself.

  • I went to the UK premiere of Redux back in 2001.
    Full red carpet treatment.
Free booze led to an uncomfortable last hour trapped in the middle of the row.

  • Looks decent! Jessie Buckley is great in Beast.

  • Love Kaufman, so looking forward to this

  • Just watched TENET.

No idea what to make of it.

  • Thank you Film 4, I think. Mandy - quite possibly the maddest fookin film I've ever watched.

  • It's great. Now watch Color out of Space.

  • Anyone else seen Host? Pretty decent seance/spooky/jump fillum, quite cleverly done with Zoom meeting setup

  • Soon as it's free on prime. NC at his manic best is always worth a watch.

  • Uh huh.
    Just watched TENET too.

    I think I enjoyed it.

  • Recent films seen

    13 Assassins
(enjoyable recentish take on Samurai epic)
    Beats
(great for someone who was an unabashed rave kid and has a soft spot for Glasgow)
    The Hate U Give
(alright but let down by the ending which if i remember rightly deviates from the book. Topical given all the BLM going on currently)

  • Where did you see it and how busy was the cinema? H&S managed ok?

It would be interesting to hear experiences from any anyone who’s visited the big screen recently.
