  • Oh and I watched You Were Never Really Here the other night. It's the first thing I've seen by Lynne Ramsay, it was great in a very horrible, uncomfortable way. Anyone know if We Need To Talk About Kevin by her is any good?

  • "Good" is subjective. We Need To Talk About Kevin IMO is well made, it's interesting, it's also harrowing and a tough watch.

  • Watched Bait tonight.

I've not seen anything like it, it was excellent.

  • Rewatched it recently, and it's good, but it doesn't even scratch the surface of the book

  • Kevin is definitely worth watching. Love that movie.

Didn’t realise there’s a book too. Might get it.

  • Also watched Joker tonight.

It was good, but wasn’t blown away by slightest.

Definitely not something where I’d be totally hooked while watching or going to see again within few days time (not even years in this case).

  • Joker looks dull AF

  • Ad Astra was rubbish

Best film seen recently was The Lady Vanishes. Old Hitchcock number. And started a yearning for more train based films. So enjoyed Silver Streak too.

  • Joker: Didn't plan to go see it at the cinema. Walked past at the right time this evening and went in on a whim.

I thought it was incredible. Not sure why all the reviews are so salty. Joaquin Phoenix is so good, the character development and plot development were very well thought out. Unexpected treat.

  • Watched Blue Velvet tonight, the first time since I saw it in 86/87. Still as good as I remember it. Deeply weird.

Still think Mulholland Drive is his best film

  • Ad Astra tonight, a poor mans Gravity meets Interstellar.

Joker next Thursday, I can’t wait

  • Ad Astra last night. It could have been a really, really good 18 minute short.

  • I made this film because "woke culture has killed comedy" said the director. That's a no thanks from me.

  • I think you might find it interesting, wait for it to come out on Netflix or wherever.

  • Watched Pan’s Labyrinth. It was good.

  • Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem and The Departed are my films for today.

  • Have you seen -
    Runaway Train (1985)by Andrei Konchalovsky
    Or
The Train ( 1964) by John Frankenheimer.

  • if you haven't watched 'Parasite' yet, what the living shit is your excuse?

  • The Korean film? That's been on my watchlist for a little while. Will check it out!

  • I've not read the book but am aware of the subject matter. Might save it for when I really want to bum myself out!

  • Boon Joon Ho.

He of Snowpiercer, Mother and The Host fame amongst others. Hasn't set a foot wrong.

  • Midsommer.

An improvement on his last effort but still a journeyman's reworking of The Wicker Man, and you can tell that from the trailer.

    bleh.

  • Oh I didn't realise he'd done Snowpiercer! Will definitely check it out. Haven't given either of those others a chance yet either. Thanks for the recommendation!

  • I know the voigt/Roberts/de mornay film well. and it is solid. the 1964 film you mention will be a new one to me. but will buy a ticket for it soon. cheers dude.

  • Where did you see Parasite? I can’t seem to find any screenings in London yet.
