  • Whatdya think? pls

  • I kind of enjoyed it, reminded me of a mash up of Monsters and Arrival for some reason... Didn't like the ending much...

I was a bit sleepy when I watched it, I actually nodded of for a couple of minutes, so may have to try again when I'm getting a bit more energetic...

  • I watched 'Love, Simon' on Tuesday.
Was ok, had some funny moments, wife was crying at bits, unsure why.

Wouldn't suggest running out to see it, but it was entertaining enough.

Brief synopsis - teenage lad is gay, but no one knows, someone at his school comes out anonymously on Fakebook, they strike up an email relationship, helping each other come out, without knowing who the other is.

  • Annihilation

    Hrmm...

    Pretty colours, I guess.

  • The Death of Stalin is brilliant.

Can't wait to see this, so that's good to know.

Also just to jump back to the Baby Driver slating, I loved it. But it needs to be watched in the cinema (or maybe with a serious home sound system).

It's a film you really need to be able to loose yourself in properly.

  • +1 for DoS. The decision to have all the actors use their own accents works really well. Having them all do shit Hollywood eerushyun eeeyecksents would have been shit.

  • "A biologist signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition where the laws of nature don't apply"

Sounds like stalker/the zone ;) Still want to see it!

  • annihilation: fantastic movie. i think i "got it" tho i might need to watch it again.

  • annihilation: i didnt - meh - didnt get a feel for any of the characters as much as NatP tried to carry the movie it didnt really grip me...

  • I don't think any of the other characters really matter, what does matter is their respective conditions.

  • yeah exactly it was contrived so that each one of them would represent a certain "condition" and a certain "outcome" but they were given so little screen time or real fleshing out apart from a 3 sentence explanation in a row boat by 1 character that i didnt get emotionally involved in them and therefore the film.

  • Pretty colours tho

  • Annilihation. Last twenty minutes OK. Build up a bit generic and throwaway. Good sound design.

    The Nile Hilton Incident (2017)

A maid witnesses a murder at an upscale hotel and a policeman is assigned to the case, but it soon becomes clear that important people don't want the case solved

Nothing new but local touches about corruption (it's..bad) / the Arab Spring / immigrants living in squalid conditions / some dry humour made it work. And I did end up feeling for the characters.

  • Fucking loved the Barrow/Salisbury soundtrack to Annihilation. Apparently mostly using a waterphone but with an Oberheim two-voice for that goosebump synth riff. Had to rewatch it again just to pay closer attention to the soundscape.

pretty colours in the upside up

  • Annihilation. Meh. Just couldn’t get into it. Tho Natalie Portman was v good. Don’t think I ‘got it’ tbh.

  • I just finished it. Pretty sure I got it and I was into it but it suffered from not being in a cinema. Not only the trippy spectacle stuff but the shot selection meant that a lot of detail was just too small to see properly on my TV. Should have used the projector but I was feeling lazy.

  • Yeah, that is also true. I also started watching it at 22.45 last night so perhaps I should give it another shot when I’m more awake. Lots of people stated the bear to be terrifying, haunting, ‘the creepiest thing I’ve seen in years’, but it just didn’t envoke those emotions for me.

  • Don’t watch it with the sound too low - it’s designed to be quite immersive.

  • Anyone seen The Square yet? It's amazing, super ambitious but pulls it off.

  • Annihilation prompted me to watch Ex Machina, which was amazing.

  • prompted me to watch Predator - which is still amazing.

  • Another good point. And yes, Ex Machina is fantastic.

In unrelated news, just booked my tickets for Isle of Dogs for which I am very excited.

  • prompted me to watch Predator - which is still amazing.

    yeah it was very Predator
