I saw Rogue One on Friday. I went in not sure whether I'd be in to it although I really liked the Force Awakens.
I thought it was meh at best with some nice battle scenes. I didn't give two shits about any of the characters, they all felt a bit throwaway.

The Eagle Huntress
Its not a film without it's missteps. It tries to make a bit more of the cultural opposition to a woman hunting with an eagle than there really it and doesn't really delve into the history of eagle hunting and the women who have done this across the centuries. Honestly, the film could have easily gotten into all of this and more, been an hour longer and been just as watchable.
But on the other hand, the two central subjects, Aisholpan and her father, are brilliantly engaging amid the stunning cinematography. And if any forumengers have young children, you could do worse in trying to inspire them to great things by taking them to see this film. Especially the bit where a young girl climbs down a cliff face on the end of a loosely tied rope and lassos a large egret before wrapping it in a blanket.
A lot of reviews are trying to make much of the somewhat set up nature of the girl vs patriarchy narrative but in doing so are ignoring the many other great elements of this film. Even knowing the shortcomings, I really enjoyed this film.

lassos a large egret
Do you mean eaglet? Or was that the big twist in the film?

Only one kung fu scene in the whole of Rogue One and a bit of that was in the trailer.
I ❤ Donnie Yen and the sleepy eye dude from Ghost Dog so was well excited but was left disappoint.

Hm I don't think I've seen La Jetee, thanks will try to find it.
Star ship troopers was a hoot, I thought it would be low brow Trash but Verhoeven went all Robocop on it and combined violence with social criticism. Yay! :)

Mad max 1-4. George Millar is criminally underrated.
I really want a ford falcon gt. And a Sweet red panel van with 70s prog rock album cover art airbrushed down the side.
