  • He was very good, just found it hard to get into the movie as he's such an asshole and the sorta redeeming thing starts only in the middle.

The mad drugs scene reminded me a bit of this short:

Ethereal Chrysallis- Syl Disjonk also dealing with this whole death/rebirth/transformation thing. Don't do drugs kids... (short is available on this webpage for free)

  • Yeah, pretty terrible.
all the exciting parts are in the trailer.

  • Familiar - Richard Powell is also mega and Canadian, yay for horror. But I can't find it online... saw it at the Belfast Film Fest 2 years ago.

  • The Drop - it was OK but tried a little too hard with the scene setting and the build-up. It wasn't bad but it didn't really seize you at any point.

  • Watched The Gift the other day. Nice and broody, with an unpleasant pay-off and an excellently unlikeable Jason Bateman. Would recommend.

  • Gonna have to find streams for everything you lot just mentioned.

@aggi isn't that the really slow moving one, with the weirdly frank ending?

There's a That's Entertainment in town, where nobody buys the good stuff, so we can always find something good off the shelf for pennies. Current DVD pile is mostly the Spanish or Italian Giallo stuff.

The Devil's Backbone (2001) was a pretty fine Del Toro film. Not scary, totally watchable, overall a good drama and well performed.

  • Red Army is a very watchable documentary about the Russian ice hockey team

Christiane F. as discussed earlier is worth a watch if you're not looking for something uplifting

Stanford Prison Experiment provides a rather ugly look at human nature - not pretty but rewarding viewing

Far from Men is another treat from North Africa (alongside The Battle of Algiers, Timbuktu, Days of Glory and others that escape me) looking at injustices of late colonial Algeria.

  • That sounds like it.

  • I watched Faults last night. About cults n shit. A very good directorial debut.

  • The devils advocate is a good documentary that also focuses on Algeria.

'71. Not bad, scratching the surface of the situation in NI but its good to see the collusion of UK army with paramilitaries and radicalisation of kids mentioned as not everyone may be familiar with it.

Westminster is still unwilling to open the books despite for example Kincora which has collusion all over it.

  • I just did as well. Excellent film. Wouldn't surprise me if it wins the big awards. Rylance and Hanks were both excellent.

  • Entourage...after watching the film, I can't actually remember why I liked the series

the movie was absolute shite, just a cameofest and Wahlberg indulgence...1 hour and 44mins too long

  • Watched Straight Outta Compton last night - how was that so well reviewed?
The first part of the film is fairly compelling, but the longer it goes on the more plastic the characters feel, and the more it feels like a pretty well sanitised version of the story. Similar to the B.I.G film in that way - but not quite as rose tinted.

  • The trailer for "Independence Day II: Independencier" is out.

Not sure if excited, or Matrix II.

  • I'm concerned there's potential for starship troopers II.

  • ID one was so, so so SO technically incorrect (yeah we will write a computer virus for them, RIGHT) I think I'll pass number 2 like Uggs and double denim ;)

  • my exact thought when I saw the trailer last night.

  • The first one was gash, why do you think the sequel will be any better?

  • Independence Day? Walked out of it when he started punching the fucking Alien.....fucking shocking.........that's no way to treat visitors

  • Denzel Washington's best film to date though.

  • Lolll

  • Independence Day was the last of the great American blockbusters!

This supposed 'five-star' review has made me even less interested in seeing this. It makes it sound like the worst imaginable Hollywood painting-by-numbers job--basically fulfilling expected audience expectations that are expected.

  • Booked my tickets for tonight. IMAX laser whatever that may be. 8pm GMT, bring it on.

Possibly my favourite Star Wars scene ever.
