I thought Grave of the Fireflies was quite good, as in realistically grim.

But it's not as uplifting as most of his other work for sure...like watching Threads you just feel a bit...down/unpleasant/nullified after.

Oh it's a great film no doubt about that, just that I watched it when I was a teenage and got knocked down a pegs or two.

@snottyotter liked Fury so is dead to me. Dead as in running-around-on-fire-screaming-Nazi dead.

The first one made sense, 2 was just a collection of people narrating stuff that seemed almost related, but didn't follow any particular order and didn't leave you bothered about the characters at all. Fury was awesome.

babadonk - nice idea, some mild scares, let down by a trite ending.

Thought Black Sea was great, albeit predictable/Jude Law's Scotch accent.

Only lovers left alive was very much a Jim Jarmusch film, who I quiet like. But his vignette style didn't work (for me) with vampires. It was contrived and boring rather than interesting, quirky, insightful.

Vampires are boring.
