  • They are all very samey. So much so I can't recall if I've seen the second one or not...

Think I'll got see Guardians of the Galaxy Monday or Tuesday. Movie tickets are - wait for it - $9.50 here (actually, $7 for me). That's like, £5. It's actually $5 on Tuesday. Insane. Will probably see the new Planet of the Apes as well.

  • That Mad Max trailer looks so shockingly shit. Sanitised badly executed computer graphics and a bad mix with live action. I thought it would be a story around an ageing Mel Gibson, with an interesting background generated by the passage of time, and that would have interested me. As it is, it's probably an appalling script with a faceless nonentity for a lead. Won't watch.

With you on that though not sure if I'd watch anything with an aging Mel Gibson either

  • apparently howard the duck is in it for a brief moment.

    howard the fucking duck.

  • In guardians of the galaxy? I love Howard the duck!

  • Guardians @imax in t minus 10 mins. Excited!

  • Guardians @imax in t minus 10 mins. Excited!

    So good.

Great fun with some brilliant action. 9.5/10 (for the genre).

  • yes, it is a lot of fun!

  • off to see Guardians at the imax in Kingston this evening. I knew I was onto a good thing last year when on a second date at the cinema we saw a trailer for Star Trek and the more important other got very excited. we go to the cinema to see most of the big sci fi and superhero movies in 3D or imax where possible

  • This spate of fantasy super hero loud cgi- formula films are a big conspiracy to give us worlds where we can forget the shit going on in this one

  • The Star Wars prequel trilogy really is dog shot from start to finish. Witless bollocks, absolutely no real drama or charm beneath the sickly gloss. Also, Hayden Christensen is intolerable in them, a unceasing charisma drain.

Old news of course, just surprised to find that Revenge of the Sith doesn't even make passable Saturday night fodder.

I wondered who was ultimately responsible for making those films so ineffably shit. George Lucas? Do aged directors, like aged rock stars, just become bloated lazy artless fools?
Or was it out of his hands?
Whatever, I agree, those films were utter toss.

One with exploding robots instead of rockets.

  • Guardians ace fun, would happily sit through that again

  • Mesrine part 1&2.

Can Vincent Cassel do no wrong?

That was really good. Haven't watched it before. I love movies about gangsters.

  • The Punk Singer was cool.

More like worlds where who is good and who is evil is clear, not the current muddle of the real world, worlds where western (American) values are win, where heroes die and are resurrected in time to defeat evil at the last moment, where a clear resolution results in triumphalism (while a touch of evil remains alluding to the joys of another sequel). And where the stuff and creatures from these worlds get turned into little plastic dolls to be sold for the young and nerd collectors of our world so they can play / pay and collect while forgetting that we are are all pawns in the hands of the rich war mongering politicians and their arms dealer sponsors

  • Auckland film festival has just finished. Saw some great films.

Force Majeure (Sweden): Amazing. Beautifully shot, funny, I now want to go to the alps.

Club Sandwich (Spain): Very slow going but with some funny moments.

Wild Tales (Argentina): Best film of the three, 6 short films all about revenge.

  • Studio Ghibli have announced their closure.

Fading Gigolo... Very funny, gentle comedy written and directed by John Turturro... Sharon Stone, Vanessa Paradis and Woody Allen all feature...

Mr Peabody & Sherman... Beautifully put together DreamWorks CGI-fest... Many megapixel lols...

For 10 years old basically. Possibly an insult to 10 year olds :)

  • Watched Calvary - Not a bad film, some of the characters felt too much like stereotypes, the lead role was however stunningly played. Saved the movie for me as the rest was a little uneven, but I could feel for the main character.

  • Noah = vile shit

  • ^ Worse than the book?

  • Yeah not quite as far fetched.
