I dont use flashing lights precicely because they identify me as a bike "Is that something ahead? Oh, it's flashing, must just be a bike, I won't bother giving him more than 2 inches space as I pass/won't bother waiting for him before I turn right" If they decide to move over or slow down in the half second extra it takes them to realise I'm a bike then that's ok by me.

Also I heard that flashing lights actually attract tired/drunk drivers in your direction, probably a load of crap though

last year some messenger in PDX lost a court case, apperently in oragon a fixed rear wheel is not a break, beacuse only people of certin abilty and physicial stature can skid tyre on dry level pavement, where as others cant.... presumably with a break caliper, you do not need abilty (like muscel controll of the fingers) or physical stature (like fingers) to use it.

oh and can some one lend me a copy of that couriers are revolting pamphlet, i keep heraing about it, and want to read it.

The problem with flashing lights is half the time they're off and when they're off the driver can't see you ... ;)

I can see a gap in the market for a flashing LED that doesn't turn off, it just dims, flashes, dims, flashes... ;)

call me a nerd but as long as you have a light you are doing all right. I am amzed at how many people I see riding around with none on a winters evening it is scary. As someone who drives a bike with no lights is very difficult to see.
