Police bike auction - Thursday

I imagine they will all be pretty crap, but you never know what might turn up.

The Metropolitan Police bicycle auction is returning next week to north
London after being with south London auctioneers for 20 years or more.

79 bikes will go under the hammer at Frank G. Bowen Ltd, 73 Sceptre
Road, Bethnal Green, next Thursday, May 24 at 11am, viewing from 9.30am
and on Wednesday from 12 noon to 4pm. The list of bikes is on
http://www.frankgbowen.co.uk . One needs to
register before the auction and a deposit may be required. The auction
is fortnightly. It has migrated from south London after 20 years or so.
The bikes are listed in the catalogue in 3 batches beginning with Lot

1. There are 706 lots in the auction which includes all kinds of
   other
   goods. Purchases must be removed by 4pm the next day.
   
   

Police auction bikes unclaimed or owner unknown. The Police auction has
long been a popular means of buying a bike cheaply. Run-of-the-mill
mountain bikes can go for between £30 and £40.

It is best to take a pump with connectors with varying nipples and some
tools if one is able to ride a bike away. That’s because the tyres
usually are flat as the bikes have been in storage, and also
adjustments
may be necessary.

Yeah Lynx, you can register on the FB site and they'll email you auction catalogues when they come up. You're better off at that one in tooting though, as you can view more easily and there's better bargains to be had.

Went to the Frank Bowen viewing today - never seen so many crap bikes in one place.

Lots of halfords/argos type rubbish, with a smattering of rusty hybrids that were once in the £300ish bracket

Sorriest sight was a mongoose MTB with a 26" rear wheel and 700C in front (which had about 2mm clearance and brake blocks hanging between the spokes), like an off-road penny farthing.

Anyone ever managed to pick up something decent at one of these sales?

Picked up a Charge Mixer in good nick...but then had it nicked three weeks later.

i've been to that one a few times it's just up the road from me
usually 99.99 double suss mtbs
one auction a pashley sit up and beg sold for £20 to a friend who runs the leyton bike recycling centre
it's a cheap way for them to pick up some average mtb's on the cheap
occassionally there are bargains have seen cannondale / almost new giant mtb
just got to be a bit lucky

There's a few fixed relevant bikes there tomorrow. A couple of Fujis, A couple of Plugs, a small black Dolan, Dee 29", a Orlowski lo pro that's had a front end crash, a track frame with a Thron sticker.

And a Tricross with 105, a Bianchi c2c, a trashed aluminium Condor with Xenon 9.
