It must be I'm not sexy, I'm not gay so being sexy must be gay.
You sound confused. Your syntax, I mean.
-
• #378
I just realised syntax sounds like 'sin tax'. Not sure where I'm going with this, other than nowhere.

What pisses me off, what really really fucking pisses me off, is that whenever I suggest that something is hateful or nasty I get people repping me and PMing me to say well done, they agree. But they don't fucking stand up and say it publicly. So the number of people who do get sick to death of some of the crap on here is never apparent. Then out come all the bloody cake and crumble pics and we're back to thinking everything is fine.

Does that mean being sexy is gay?
Errmmmmm ..... noo.... i'm really confused :s

It's a bit ironic that 'gay' is now being used to mean 'sad'. By ironic, I mean shit.

• #382
Can we get back to the lycra please?
-
• #383
I can see Wills point and I agree, however I regularly disagree with stuff and just don't get involved because I can't be bothered arguing. Sorry Will.

• #384
I can't believe he's dissing the pies and crumbles. Bastardo!

Do people still use the word 'gay' to mean 'stereotypically homosexual' ?
-
• #386
Was stereotypicality ever part of the equation? Isn't that 'camp'? Is 'stereotypicality' even a word?
-
• #387
Lycra is just appropriate kit for the job.
I'm sure hip fixy skidder kit is fine if you are pootling 2 miles to/from pub/cafe etc.
But for long distance cycling lycra is perfect, hence its poularity with the riders of the TDF (and my daily 14 mile each way commute).
So its less an expression of overt or latent sexuality, more a acceptance of practicality.Besides, it makes my arse look good.

It is now you've used it in a sentence! ;)
I think it was a bit of the equation. To the very narrow minded, gay = hand-flapping, glittery, spandex-clad disco queens. Of course, the gay population (which includes women!) is as diverse as any other. So asking whether an item of clothing made from a particular material is 'gay' could be read as suggestive of a stereotype.

Yes.
On the other hand, I think when some people equate lycra with being gay, rather than stereotyping, they're basically getting turned on, and voicing their fear, as homophobes will*.

Auberon Waugh was a total shit.
I take it you never met his father then? In comparison, Bron was charm personified. Also - unlike many of his targets - he had a sense of humour...

Race-cyst.

Talc would probably help.

I don't like the taste.

I am crap at typing and so will not even attempt stereotyping.
-
• #396
Is the use of the word "crap" in a derogatory sense, inappropriate? After all, healthy stools are a cyclist's friends.
-
• #397
monotyping is aesthetically pure. there's more connection to the keyboard. it forces me to be more aware of my environment and type faster. i can hit the fullstop and return key faster than if i use two fingers.
it's a zen thing. -

First we have the ladies forum, now saying gay is off limits. Is nothing fucking sacrosanct.
I think what you mean to say, Will, is that if you think this place is bad then you must be leading a very sheltered internet life.
It gets a bit laddish here but compared to say the Cake Stop section over on Bikeradar, it's very tame.
Not that that makes it okay of course, as homophobia in any form is hateful.
