  • i'm not middle aged yet (depending on how long I live of course!!), however, I cant wait to be called a MAMIL!! sweet!!

What comes after MAMIL? In another year I will be too old...

OMIL? Or even SOMIL? Oh dear...

  • I think when the word gay is used on here it's in the sense of rubbish, not homo
I agree with kerley, black lycra is definitely better than other colours.

I thought it was being used to say 'Lycra is Happy!'

anyway its the evolution of language there. Gay means rubbish, without any homophobic conitations. Every Gay guy i know use's the word like that from time to time.

anyway i only where my lycra get up when i do a long ride so i'm more comfortable. i can't see the point in donning that stuff to get to work or pop to the shops, it has its place, that place is in non gay areas like on the track, a long ride things like that. anywhere else you'll see....

  • I know gay is used to suggest something is rubbish in modern language, but when describing lycra/lycra wearers I would not be so convinced and would think it is half being used in the derogatory way.

We all know lycra is not rubbish at all and it makes the most comfortable performance cycling items so I can only think some people think it makes the wearer look gay and those same people think there is something wrong/bad about being gay.

  • You're not alone Carson and people do get pulled up on this from time to time but it still happens. There is the substitute word 'ghey' which is used occasionally and that's all right. A bit like when I say Is wearing Lycra a bit blhick? See, one little change and it's fine. Similarly, Is wearing Lycra a bit Jhawish? No one minded that.
The heart is a lonely ghey hunter.

Must spread rep before giving it to will again.

  • Do you mean a jersey?

Sorry, yes I do mean jersey. I had brain fail. Was sat there looking blankly at the screen for a few minutes trying to think.

  • To be fair, I still call football boots... Soccer shoes.

  • Isn't this thread a bit.. oh, what's the word.. something-ophobic.. I can't quite recall...

I've said this before, it's bloody stoopid to even keep this sort of titles...

You're not alone Carson and people do get pulled up on this from time to time but it still happens. ....

The same way 'glossy pics of girls...' thread had to be finished, this sort of titles should be changed, it only reveals unintelligence.

I know gay is used to suggest something is rubbish in modern language...

    Which is absolutely inadmissible.

  • To be fair, I still call football boots... Soccer shoes.

Then what are you doing calling soccer shoes 'football boots'?

  • i think happy and gay non-homosexual people should reclaim the word gay.

gay isn't a good word to describe homosexuality, it's better used to describe true gayness (happiness).
i don't mind it being turned round in the same way as 'bad' meaning good but not misappropriated.

  • Then what are you doing calling soccer shoes 'football boots'?

That's what they are supposed to be called in this country, so in order for the audience to know what the foot-garment in question is, I had to refer to them as such.

  • wearing lycra is one of the best things about being a cyclist, preceded only by shaving of the legs

  • Driver; Get off the fu*king road you fu*king prick!!
Me; Angry hand jestures as he cuts me right up.
[catch up with him at junction.....after a cav style sprint!!]
    Me; Whats your problem..
Driver; Fu*k off with your lycra before I smash your face in....poof.
Me; You ever been hit by someone wearing lycra
[As if by magic, he's on his arse!! :-)]

    Truely IRONMAN !

    Excuses, excuses! ;)

Everyone born on a Sunday is gay. FACT.

  • GTFA. Funny that my gay friends don't get offended by people calling things gay. I's always people who aren't actually in that situation getting offended.

What are you on about, 'your gay friends'...? Who cares about your gay friends dude!?
It's about the connotation of the word, the reason behind it being used in the 1st place in that specific context, but I don't think you've got that bit now, have you..?
'Is wearing lycra a bit gay...?', as in, 'will I look wrong to others who I want to lick arse, if I'm wearing lycra, will I look like a gay man... because I don't want to look wrong'. Gay = Wrong, innit?
Since when 'gay' is a situation anyway? Or should one just accept/hear and let go something, just because it's not directly related to it? Get a clue ...

  • +1, I hate the connotations of the word gay, it's like you should identify with the whole gay culture thing, kylie and gaydar and camp bitching and mahoosive cocktails and screaming fabulous at people and air kissing and doing things because they're gay not because you're actually interested in them

gay to me means defining yourself by your sexuality, not something I want to do

don't actually like the word at all

  • Isn't this resolved yet..... ;-)

  • YouTube- DIVINE - You Think You're A Man

    that song's actually about lycra

not a lot of people know that

  • I normally ride with cargo shorts over lycra, but I did 35 miles on the road bike yesterday in lycra-only mode and now I really don't want to go back to the modesty shorts. So I rode to work this morning with the outline of my winkie showing and I don't give one because it felt GRATE.

  • Hmmm that post should win an award for confusing use of the English language.

  • Thanks!

  • grating your winky is not a good idea

straight or gay, but you can find videos of people doing it online (so i have heard)
