I like lycra. Does the job well. It keeps you cool on hot days, warm on cold days, wicks away sweat and light rain, smells fresh after a long ride, is comfortable and doesn't catch on the saddle like looser clothing can. It just works.
I ride lycra all the time, though in the city I wear Chrome or Rapha shorts on top. If I know I'm doing more than around 50 miles, I forego any outer layer that would make me fit into a pub easier and just go full lycra. On-bike comfort is a higher priority than looks for me.

I ran into an Evans today to get out of the rain and to kill time was going to try on those Humvee shorts. Some knob had put the security tag through the knicks and the shorts parts with the knicks in backwards!
How the fsck are you meant to try them for size - either the knicks are unwearable (being backwards) or there's a bunched up lump of lycra in the shorts. Wouldn't be the first time I've left an Evans thinking 'd1ckheads!'. -

The number of urban riders grows every year, but we are often forced to choose between functional but unattractive cycling clothing or making do with everyday clothes. The Rapha FIXED. range is inspired by the demands of riding in town and the style and practicality of fixed wheel bikes. Each garment is designed for commuting in all weathers, but also with enough style to be worn in the office.

hippy £105!
mumble rich mumble still gonna get passed by gramps on his Halfords special mumbleI'd wear that grandad stuff before you got me into one of these
they even come with a special 'insert'
The FI.Uno insert is made out of 4 different components that are shaped to support and contour the body’s anatomy when in motion. Its seamless-touch surface construction features a road shock absorbing foam cushioning that is bonded onto the elastic, frictionless, skin contact textile. Mesh net insert in-between the braces provides a more stable fit by preventing bib-short movement.
I think I am going to be sick...:(

Yeah me too I am looking out for some tweed plus fours for the winter in charty shops. Slim chance I know but it would be ultimate warm and fitted lower boady wear.
Then I'll buy a gun to go with it.

buddha, cannot believe that you would pass up an Assos bib that easily. That stuff is the shit. It's the bike porn, for-the-win pinnacle of lycra. Try it before you knock it.

Your shiny orbs. Prevents chaffing by creating a glossy finish that material cannot create friction against.

TheBrick Yeah but your hardcore sleeve tatoo save you when you go into a pub mid ride.
Actually, not many blokes would have a go at someone wearing lycra in a pub. Over here everyone is worried you'll knife 'em or turn them ghey just with your eyesight or some other pile o' w@nk. Actually most people are just curious about where you've been/where you're going. That's what I found anyway.

I would love someone to yell that out in a pub. Standing there pointing at someone in lycra.
"ahhh your turning me gay!!"

.

For the dude yelling.
I have an image of some guy in a pub drinking, a cyclist walking in and the guy getting up pointing and yelling
"ahhh your turning me gay!!"
then running out screaming jumping either into a pond or into the path of a car. All you hear is a splash or screetch which ever ending you want.
Then slight confused cyclist orders beer and ploughman's lunch. The lunch of real men. I need to go eat.
