that was two "ah"s to many.
the first was him lighting the spliff and the last was him finding a half eaten sandwich in the fridge -

ive had my chain snap twice at 78.9GI, doesn't seem to be a problem now that ive changed down to almost 70.
but quality chain makes a difference and how well you change the links on it.
so ive said nothing different to what murtle listed above.
those three points are your guide. -

two things:
a) if there was a half eaten sandwich in the fridge, pip, it must have been her/his house
and
b) [edit]fuck it.

So I picked up an Izumi chain at Condor (£3 cheaper then BLB), a chain tool (£13 as opposed to £45 from BLB) and an 18T 1/8 spocket. All I need is a chain whip which is too expensive, off to the tools thread I go!!!

• #38
you dont really need a whip to put a chain on

Given he's bought a cog too.. what do you think he might be doing with that? Maybe turning it into a nice dangly earring?

Ultimately this is the end goal. I want to build my bike so I can hang it from my ear. I sense a new hipster sensation coming!!!

KMC devil 101 is an amazingly heavy duty chain, got one last week, and well happy with it!
Plus its absolutely silent, first time I bought a chain this good, and it was well worth the investment, makes kool chains etc feel like they are made out of tin in comparison! -

how delightful, you'll need a chain whip though

Hi,
One of the links on my chain has snapped (just on one side luckily so nothing major).
It has done what I would consider to be very light mileage, what could be the cause of this breakage?
My chain line is good, the chain is a TAYA 1/8 model that I got from halfords probably cost around £10.
Any Ideas?
As a side issue, what chains are considered reliable and where is the best place to buy them in the East London/ Bank area?
thanks

installation error? how so? surely it is either installed or it isn't or am i missing something?

99% of the time, that's why chains 'snap'. Too much wrestling of the pin (or quick links or whatever), or not enough protruding beyond the plates. Or neglected tight links.

has it snapped where you joined it ? half link :)

is there any way to install it to avoid this occurring?

no it is just one of the normal links i.e. not the one that you use to remove it.it isn't a half link chain.
