I'm gonna drop out, have been nearly coughing up my own body parts for past couple of days so I'll only be really slowing everyone down if I go.

Have a good-un though and should see you for the next time

  • Coughing up body parts does not sound good at all. The only remedy I can think of is the John Snow tonight, where beer is the cure.

  • I'm definitely doing this still whatever the weather.

However if it's raining, I'll do it geared. My new wheels aren't arriving today... he's still a few mm out on the length of the new spokes, so I'm not going to be fixed until next week now. Don't like the idea of 80 miles-ish with only a wet front brake to stop me, and if I'm free-wheeling anyway I may as well just bring the road bike out to play.

But I'll be there regardless. Bike choice according to the weather... but still there for the ride.

  • Oh, well if gears are acceptable.. I need to train for this Etape Anglais! :D

  • Well the forecasts say it's raining today and it's not so I don't believe any of them... And what's all this about gears?

  • i know...whaterver man i don't really care on the L2B 2 people were geared and 1 was freewheelin it so...

  • Hey, I wasn't complaining, just asking ... :)

  • lol

  • Ah, David, freewheelin' again ...tsk tsk..

  • lpg Ah, David, freewheelin' again ...tsk tsk..
Afraid so, still have a stripped hub until the new wheels finally show up.

  • what wheels are you getting?

  • Posted somewhere else... but... Phil Wood High Flange laced to Mavic CXP 33's with Sapim CX Ray's, radial front, hybrid 2-cross/radial rear, Phil Wood 15t.

3 weeks I've been waiting now. But the problem was the lace pattern. They've been building test wheels, getting the spoke length right, testing the lateral and torque strength of the pattern, etc. I'm cool with that, as dying to get them as I am, I'd rather have them perfect than rushed.

  • we need something like a twister to take the rain away from us...
i want to ride but if the weather is not good im not going, coz i want get there and relax with the sunshine not with windy or rain...
if nobody goes we can arrange for another weekend...
im sorry but 100km with rain and windy will not be nice...

  • i don't mind, s'long as it's not cold rain, you'll be comfortable. Cycling through a warm downpour is really liberating. Might not make it because i have a BB issue, so i'll spend all day tomorrow trying to mend it ... fingers X.

  • 11 celsius's a bit cold buddy whaddya reckon?
i really hope you can sort out the bb shell out, in the meantime give the guys at armourtex a call

  • Yeah 11C is a leetle cold, but that's all right i don't mind. I'll just bring a change of clothes or something ...

  • you can only get wet ONCE

  • if mum says "yes" i'm still going...regardless

  • this is looking scary, press play and see i'm going away on monday and don't wanna get sick

  • Stef this is looking scary, press play and see i'm going away on monday and don't wanna get sick

Looks fine, there's a gap over the ride providing we can get to Southend before 3pm ;)

  • lets see how the weather goes...I wanna go so I`ll try...just if its very bad

  • Oh man, that's a big rain cloud. Still, it's not that cold and mostly it's going to avoid our route. I'll bring a raincoat. On the plus side, if it's raining the roads round Southend won't be full of boy racers in souped up Corsas with plastic bits bolted on and fat exhaust pipes from Halfords...

  • While I'm here, is there a protocol for deciding if it's too wet to ride so I know whether or not to get out of bed in the morning? Or are some people planning to give it a go regardless (like me)?

  • I'm going anyway :)

My legs will be wet, my feet too. But I'll be there regardless.

slamm said that his measure of whether he's taking part is whether it's pissing down when he gets up tomorrow morning.

But I'm doing it regardless as this is now important Etape training for me.

The only person I really hope shows up is brett, as he printed the route ;) Brett, if you don't want to do it, at least pop down to the start and give us the maps!
