Seriously, c'mon now, is there a particular bit of my foot I should be aiming for when adjusting the cleats? On ride 1 they were too far forward and made me feel like I was cycling on my tip toes. Ride 2 moved back to more like on the ball of my feet but still not very comfortable...or should I just keep moving them till I can find a sweet spot?

Poots
Someone like the bike whisperer will spend an hour or so adjusting cleat position, wedges etc.
It's a combination of biomechanics, foot varus, comfort, leg length and voodoo.

Oh christ...it's going to be another saddle situation?
Man, I thought the pedals would just turn themselves once I had sidi's on my feet! ; )

just keep moving them around until comfortable. Once you have the comfort position sorted, after a longer ride you will be able to tell if they need moving a tiny bit more in any direction to get them perfect.

Basically the ball of your foot over the centre line of the pedal and rotate the cleat until your foot sits happily on the pedal in the middle of the free twisting movement of the cleat in the pedal. Simples.
(Took the bike whisperer an hour to do that to my shoes too) -

Are the sidi Zephyrs any good? they are cheap and I need some new road sidis as it feels morally wrong riding on the road bike and track with my dominators.

I've only used them for a couple of weeks but yes, they're good.
They seem just as well built, and as comfortable and stiff as my Dominators. The lack of buckle does make it a fraction slower to adjust on the bike (not good when racing, fine at any other time).
I was looking at Bont A1s but they seemed quite fragile. Fuck shoe maintenance.

After a minor tantrum in the Cycle Surgery on Pentonville Road (spending the day/shopping with your mother will do that to a girl, make you regress) turns out they had my size in Victoria! I ARE SO HAPPY!
Pair of Sidi Dominators for £26. Win!
Ok...so how do you know where/how you're supposed to position the cleats, with the slide-y plate and variable placement erm places? Is it just trial and error as to what feels comfortable?
Ms Poots, how on earth did you find Sidis for £26?
-
• #485
she got a vouncher worth 120 quid, all she have to do is all 26 quid of her own money for a pair of sidis.

Will they take toe spikes? My vintage Shimano's are falling to pieces
-
• #489
Yes, they do. Two per shoe.

Curse your normal size feet.

Anybody used the Mavic Rush (Called the tempo last year)? Bit more in my price range
-
• #494
I used Mavic Tempos for cross last season. I found they were uncomfortable after 40 minutes so went back to Dominators. Apart from the discomfort, they were fine, good, stiff sole but okay to run in and cleaned up well even after the worst mudbaths.

surprised you are not in the Dragons

As with components in cyclocross, use what you can afford to replace as they'll undoubtedly get trashed sooner or later.
-
• #497
do you think they are less robust than the dominators - the only damage i have done to them is once smashed a buckle and the sole coming off (fixed with glue)
-
• #498
I don't know. But I've got a pair of old dominators that I use in the worst conditions so haven't yet felt the need to buy new shoes.
