Ok folks, everone needs answers to questions that just are not being made available. As one of the people rallying behind the forming of this orginization from the begining. Maybe I can explain a few things.
First off I feel that there is a time and place for talking crap. Important issues will arise from time to time. Let's all try to keep our posts to the point and on topic.
This "Federation" is not being set up as an I want to rule the world type thing. Nor is it meant to be anything more than a start to bring us all together and create some solidarity amongst the polo community world wide. I new three years ago that someone was going to form an association of some sort and that it would cause some dissention at first. Debate and arguement is healthy although in this case it does not seem like it is very productive.
The original haste was to create some sort of official group before Inter-Bike. (did not happen in time) I whole heartedly feel that a sanctioning body is in the best interest in developing this game. This needs to be the priority here people. We are acting pretty selfish and not thinking of the future generations to play our game.
I was at this meeting in NYC for Los Marcos. No there was no Europeans in attendance. I will try to recall the disscusssion that took place. Please for give me if some of the details are left out. No one was keeping the minutes. From what I can remember those in attendance were, Montana,Quinn,Doug D.,Ken,myself,Leon,Ben Chicago, and a few others whose names are escaping me at the moment. My appologies.
Some short tearm goals were put on the table.
    1) Form the offical body. Now not later. Create a way for the representation to come from all clubs currently playing the game.(1-2 reps from each group, club, or geographical area.) And to create a public election of officers in the future. No officers were elected except to the fact no one objected to Montana heading it up, and that Dave Currence would be the Treasurer. (My recomendation and he accepted after. Dave was not at the meeting) I asked to not be on the board but would due so out of necessity if need be. As far as representaion from the Mallets of Mayhem any of my crew can speak for us.
    2) Focus on two of the Major tournaments for 2009. That being the Worlds and the North Americans.
It was then argued that due to the Europeans that had posted on bikepolo.ca, there was a cost and time factor travelling to the west coast, and that it would be held on the east coast with either NYC or Philly hosting. This worlds tournament would also travel from city to city and that there would be a bidding process for those that wanted to host it in the future. Also that there would be some way to qualify for this international tournament. Perhaps making selection from teams that place in the top 50% of certain tournaments. That part was not decided as to what tournaments would qualify you or how many teams would be able to participate. This would most likely have to do with venues available for the hosting cities and therefore would need to be flexible for the time being.
    3) A truly international representaion would be a top priority. With out it this would all be a complete waste of time.
If I have forgot anything please post it up.
    Now for my opinions.
Anyone who feels like something is happening without out them is probably correct. However with or without an official body things are happening without you/me/us. Get involved. Be proactive. If you want to have an opinion that matters help this project, don't hinder it. It will still happen with or without you. If not by Montana by someone else. At least this has the opportunity to be directed by those who actually play the game and not by somebodys father/mother.
Creating a common game internationally is in the best interest of everyone. Here in North America the standardization has been fairly rapid. With everyone taking the best of each others styles and incorporating it to there local game. The ball being the most important of these factors. By now almost everyone is playing with a road hocky ball. Any other ball being used is not in keeping with the masses.
The scheduleing of the larger tournaments needs to be done by one group. So that the bigger tournaments are spaced far enough apart to allow maximum participation. Already there are too many tournaments to try and make it to every one.
I'm sure Montana has been intouch with most people that have concerns and that when progress is made he will make this information readily available.
I'm going to suggest that every country, city, or club that want's to have representation elect someone to represent your area. Forward your information to Montana and work with him. Off this forum. Then we can trash talk the federation and there stupid rules here instead.
I am so looking forward to playing with you all in 2009.
    Brian

  • I've been speaking with Montana for a few days now. He's a pretty sound guy. We share a lot of the same view.

  • Yeah, he seems cool (as does Brian).

So - should we "elect" you, Mike?

  • Well it's either that or I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and hand it over to the person who is eventually elected!

  • Cool. Well, I vote for you. If no one else cares, then you win!

  • I nominate Mike.

  • Aitch just said he'd vote for you so look like you're it.
