I don't care and I never had a problem. I can never make it regularly anyway so my opinion is inconsequential. It seemed to have more people arguing on both sides last week and it was suggested to discuss it on here but judging from this I was very wrong (about the weight of opinion on the pro new rule) . Apologies to all.
Fingers crossed for a dry sunday.

rob is right about the "paying attention" factor. I like the excitement of the end of game/mallet throw madness!
With the fence solution it's like.. "oh is the game finished? Lemme finish my beer/bagel/backward circle and I'll join in, my mallet is in the first hole of the fence anyway" -
• #1730
i don't think anyone is arguing, but yorgo you have a point on the excitement factor. can i throw my bagel in if someones borrowed my mallet?

People do need to be careful when they throw the mallets though. Last week someone was hit by a flying mallet.

you were born that way tommy, no excuses ;) -

ok then how about a mallet drop behind the goals in the performance area of the polo court and new location for the mallet drop
that will allow for people on the sidelines to get their mallets in early and then the people who are on the court don't have the danger of a million mallets being thrown at them
wow that is almost a sensible / logical idea nice one dicki !!

old method is fine!!

Also if there is this whole pre game picking thing, if there are 12 players or there abouts you allways end up playing the same games over and over BORING!!!. The mallet throwing is half the fun all those who constantly miss out just are not paying enough attention. I no sometimes I miss 3 or 4 games through that. It's fair, fun and easy the way it is now lets just leave it as is. and if you keep going to try to get a game and everyone stay's in just speak up sure someone will droop out for you we are a nice bunck of m8 are we not?

So sensible and logical it's been said already a'la mallets in the fence. At least that's how I'm reading it.
This isn't the first time it's come up and it won't be the last but until somebody comes up with a more manageable way of deciding 'next' it's going to stay the same. We need to let people know that a mallet in the middle means they're playing next, not that the mallet is needed for the next game.
I wasn't around last sunday to know what the ruckus was about but anybody hitting someone with a thrown mallet above the waist will potentially be thrown out. I believe it goes along with the 'high mallet' rule and gentlemanly conduct.

in New York... they say:
"I will never support a system that doesn't involve throwing mallet. I like it. It's a ritual of chaos and danger that attracts curiosity and lends a twisted whimsy to our game. The act of chucking my mallet into the fray of other rods of aluminum hurling through the air while trying not to hit my friends riding below is a physical and graphic release that cannot be replicated by a clinical paper form. If danger is what you're afraid of, you shouldn't be playing bike polo. The mallet toss is a ritual, elementally. And that's important."

What did I miss?
I'd agree with Yorgo on this front, the Mallet tossing is part of the game.
Rob, totally agree, the malle toss forces people who want to play to pay attention rather than ust turn up and get pissed. Sunday is about Polo not just getting pissed.
Mike, good call. It's all about etiquette
Dogs, you're a prick ;] -

What ever! keep trowing in mallet's mean's people pay attention to the games rather then sticking the mallet in the fence and wondering off. Come on people there has never been a problem b4. It's just a case of the people who played last to be a gentalman and step out if some want's a game, I no me, mike, dog's, DT and all the people who have been playing for a while do.
The fence thing dose not work I put my mallet in the fence first after it was surgested and did not get another game after, it's rubbish just keep doing what we are doing.
and @ Ch0mb0 yorgo has plenty of nice thing 2 say about you guys as well. All we here from him these days is "in new york" it become a bit of a regular joke.
