  • Nice Illy. I had some Benetto tape on my beater. From memory Claus has very similar tape too.

  • Just picked and ridden my beater from Jos and Ross at Tour de Ville. It's not just a beater but a Tour de Ville beater. Rides beautifully yet was very reasonably priced. While tempted to have it powder coated, that would rather defeat the purpose.

No more tubes for me. Car journeys will now be very exceptional. The ability to park a bike in the knowledge that if it gets nicked I can afford a new one, will enable me to increase my mileage, move around quicker and be happier in life.

The service I received at Tour de Ville was absolutely exceptional.

Tour de Ville are not just there for the really beautiful bling bikes but also for everyday bikes.

  • photos, or it didn't happen.

  • +1

  • Hmm.. need some work dong to my beater, been wondering where to take it where they wouldn't look at me sternly and say: 'this needs throwing in a skip'.

TdV may be just the place...

  • Now that I know you can afford a new one, I will be searching the City, high and low, looking for said bike. No guilt! Win-win!

    I hope it fits.

  • i think it's yellow... is it yellow?
    or maybe green.

  • It fits and no photo for security reasons ;o)

  • Ha! Suckers, I ruined your fun.

(and my chances for a sweet free bike! Me and my big mouth).

  • P.S., I'm not actually interested in nicking your bike. I suspect you has sweet lawyering skillz.

  • Losing it would not be nice and would not be the type of expense that I would gladly incur. It cost, however, but a small fraction of my regular ride.

Horatio, I know you wouldn't nick it. It's not bling enough for a stylish man like you.

  • yes.. BUT WHAT COLOUR IS IT?????

    damn you with this suspense!

  • It's very dull silver. When I first saw it at T de V it was an old road bike with stem shifters. Ross converted it to fixed. It has very pretty bright orange bar tape (think brand new cagoule) and brake cables. Two brakes because I am old.

  • ...and a photo?

  • who made the frame?

  • no decals. no badge. no name. It's an anonymous looking beater. Exactly how I wanted a beater to be. Looks grey and anonymous (rather like me) but rides beautifully (unlike me). I'll see if I can get a daughter to take a picture over the weekend.

  • Repped for use of 'cagoule'.

  • It fits

Great to hear that it fits you so well! ;P

Sounds like a great new acquisition!

Do you wander around the streets looking for peoples daughters to take photos of your bikes?!
How much did the beater cost you? I'm unsure of what a reasonable price would be, especially when my actual proper bike probably cost only a fraction of yours!

shouldn't he be saying "hack bike" then?

  • You've lost me :S

I have two of my own. Custom made and very expensive.

I looked at various options before buying this one. Ideas such as off the peg Fuji track bikes would have been more expensive and probably have delivered a worse bike while looking shiny and tempting to thieves. My beater hack bike wasn't as cheap as you would have paid but is an alternative to my usual bike which was very expensive and who's quality I appreciate still further now that I have a lesser bike to ride. The beater hack bike cost less than one sixth of the cost of my regular bike.

    Not cheap then.
