haha.. my first commute on the fixie - first puncture around halfway home, middle of tower bridge. Walked to tooley street, change tubes.. walked all the way to bermondsey while asking passing riders for a pump. Finally got a hand from a brasilian dude (obrigado cara!), only to puncture again literally 20 yards away in a rather mild encounter with a pothole.. Then proceeded to walk 3 miles into decathlon for a pump and some more tubes. grr.
So yeah, I shall be buying some tires this weekend! hehe..

The Michelin pro races i've had have been amazingly good,
Guy i work with got 3500 miles with only 2 punctures and that was at the end of their life.gatorskins may have been good once but the last version is shit

I replaced my rear Gatorskin with a Stelvio Pro a few weeks ago-- seems good so far.

haha :) I just replaced my Vittoria Rubino with a Ultra Gatorskin... Only had one puncture on the Rubino since April (riding at least 10 miles a day). Maybe I should have read this first, but I'll see how they go.

There is a rumour:
conti ultra gatorskins were/are made in two separate factories.
this might explain why some sets last for ever and are puncture proof, and other sets puncture and explode..
-
• #32
they might even be made in the same (shitty) factory with poor quality control and have huge differences between batches..
-
• #33
true enough, but what I know for a fact is this:
Mr Smith of this forum has been running a set for a while (including the DD) with not a single flat.
I had a set that punctured three times in as many weeks then one finally split and exploded when the bike was on it's way to it's new owner.
now I use bontys, and they havent punctured, despite spitting out bits of glass and flint every so often..
I've never been a puncture person, I ride light over rough stuff, avoid glass and keep my rims in good order.

RPM I've never been a puncture person, I ride light over rough stuff, avoid glass and keep my rims in good order.
LOL
I'm not a puncture person either. I can't believe the way some people trash their bikes effortlessly. I'm guessing it's the 'puncture people' that also wear out chains and sprockets in next to no time, don't know how to soft-pedal, grab their brakes as if they're in the final throes of frenzied masturbation, nod their heads (fuck knows how trashed Soler's bike gets), over-torque all their bolts, ride with locked elbows and hunched shoulders, and have never actually pulled UP on the pedals once in their entire devoid-of-finesse lives.
I'm such a fucking snob... but have people's/bikes' best interests at heart really. ;)

heh!
there was a point in my ride today where I was mashing a bit and the natural urge to smooth things out started, but then I suddenly remembered Soler and thought fuck it! mash awaay!

I recently entertained some club runners with my impersonations of both Soler and Evans in climbing mode. Someone suggested the wind might change during my Solerisms, and I'd be stuck like it. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Conti's aint happening , judging from the feedback in the shop I worked in. From my experience Schwalbe Blizzard pro are ok for the dough, but stelvio pros are the daddys spesh in that white/blackcombo with that chunky bit of raceguard protection inbuilt.
But Been runnin Kevlar 700x20 Vittoria' pro Teams up and till now and they've been bloody excellent, although I dont think you can get hold of them no more..;( -

I run gatorskins on my fixed (2 punctures in the last 6 months but dug plenty of bits of glass out that haven't penetrated so I'm happy) and GP4000 on my geared bike (none so far but prob done half as many miles in the same time).
Happy with both so far, esp as I am a fat git who prob puts more strain on his rubber than most of you fatherweight boys/girls.

you haven't met many forum members, have you? :D

Seeing Hippy will make you feel better, probably, haha :)

Surprised no-one's mentioned Vredesteins. I've been running them for a year and not had a single puncture...

Couldn't be bothered to read all the comments, but if we're still talking about puncture-proof tyres then I vote for Michelin Krylion Carbons. 55% off at Parkers at the moment too, £15 each.
In the summer I usually just run Michelin Pro 2 Race and make sure I pick the grit and glass out of them every couple of weeks, but this year it's been so wet I've still got my winter tyres on.
-
• #43
velocity boy just said they (the Krylions) were crap. Not used them myself.
I challenge you to a battle of the fatties IanF! ;)
-
• #44
I did get sick of the Krylions. Cut up way too easily.
I'm running some Conti's at the moment. Still got a puncture yesterday, but generally if it's a large chunk of glass or something like a screw, I can't blame the tyres too much. It's when the tyres are getting cut up and punctures happen when there is nothing obvious that I get really pissed.

I left the bike home today until I get some new tires, riding in london with stock kenda tires is just nonsense.. 3 flats in 2 days is more than I can handle!! haha.. 1 not so obvious, 1 pinch flat and 1 tiny bit of glass..
-

Ouch unxetas! Still its good practice....you can enter that Evans' ladies competition with some carefully administered makup and heels, grab and prize vouchers and buy some decent rubber.
My armadillos are really making me nervous now I'm fixed....esp. in the lightish rain of the last couple of days. Nearly went down on a man-hole-cover this morning but caught it just in time.

Are you on a Fuji?
I didn't have any trouble with my Kendas - even on the last Bridges ride, but they made me nervous. Running Gatorskins now. Over 200 miles on them (including Dunwich) and the moulding marks haven't even work off yet.

shhhhhhhh! The puncture fairies will hear you and realise they have missed you out.

stompy
Are you on a Fuji?yup.. it's pretty well disguised though! :P My new tires (rubinos) are at the post office, will try to pick them up tomorrow morning and still have them on the bike in time for the commute.. Granted rubinos are probably not the most puncture proof tire ever, but they're bound to be better than the kendas and still cheap at 6.50 each! I don't even mind the punctures every now and then, but an average of 1.5 a day is a biiiit too much!

Whaddya mean, disguised?
What's wrong with Fujis?
The Michelin's obviously suck. My May puncture tally is already at 3.
