  • Perhaps a Google Map stolen bike page should be created. So many bikes on the same road are being stolen it seems. Putting it on the first page may be useful to some.

was my daily hack to work, to save me using my lovely road bike - police are on it , apparently theres cctv footage of it being nicked...

    **Im gutted

  • My little brother had his Nitto Jaguar stem and riser bars with well worn white strong V grips nicked off his bike last night outside The Lion pub on Church st N16 last night. Any info or possible sightings let me know. Cheers

  • Hi there,

    Another day another theft:

Dawes Galaxy Tourer with Campag wide flange hubs, yellow turbo saddle and pink coral bar tape. Older than I am; was my dads! gutted to have lost it. Taken from Camberwell opposite the Hermit's Cave pub on saturday night. Also, has unmatched pedals. Quite distinctive I think.

    Cheers guys.

  • Just saw a white Fuji hybrid with someone I'm fairly sure wasn't its legitimate owner. This happened in Camden Rd/Hilldrop estates.

Damn that's my old manor. Would have thought it was safe from entire bike theft. What time was it stolen and was it locked (don't care how) ?

  • what l;ocks are everyone using? It would be useful so I know if my level of paranoia is high enough

  • My bike is protected by my street cred....

  • but im sure they can be stolen even with 'locks that work'. I own two locks that work but wonder for example if i left it overnight in some of these areas whould it matter.

  • No lock will guarantee the security of your bike, however, a good lock will make your bike much less attractive to all but the most determined of thieves. A good locking strategy will meant that you are much more likely to find your pride and joy where you left it when you come back. There is some very good advice in that thread.

  • cheers. (i still think people should say how their bikes were locked up)

  • My bike is protected by my street cred....

Your bike is protected by your breath.

  • Oh Snap!

  • Mid Lancs BMX had their container emptied of bikes last night. Once they share more details I'll post them so folks can keep eye out if they head south.

Both suggested upthread and dismissed out of hand from diverting focus from purpose of the thread.

I personally wish people would say something about locking techniques and how their bikes are stolen. It is helpful info.

  • Bike Karma?

So, I lost three bikes last week - see post 9418 upthread. I've been watching Bikeshd.co.uk but wasn't holding out much hope.

Tonight on my way home I went the wrong way down a one-way street coming into Greenwich Park. There was a police car just inside the gate and they pulled me over to issue a Fixed Penalty Notice. Fair enough - I knew I was in the wrong and I gave my details properly and accepted the fine.

Now it gets interesting (and relevant to this thread). Just as I was setting off again another cyclist came past pretty slowly. Even with just the quickest of glances I knew the bike he was riding was one of the ones I had lost and I called out to him. He slowed down a bit more and I caught up and grabbed the handlebars. The officer who had just issued the ticket to me was no more than 10 feet away and I called him over and explained the situation. I was able to show him a picture of the bike on my phone and he promptly arrested the guy for handling stolen goods.

The guy said he had bought the bike a couple of days ago on the street from some kids from the nearby estate. Paid £100 for it. Said they only had 1 for sale when he saw them.. He was pretty upset and worried about what would happen to him at the police station. Asked if he couldn't just give it back to me and all be on our way..

I'm pretty sure he is telling the truth and that he isn't the one who took them but what the hell do you expect if you buy bikes off dodgy kids on the street!

Should get the bike back from the police tomorrow - its the one the the orange tyres in post 9418; my fiancee's racer - and hopefully some of the info he gives them about the sellers rings some bells at the police station.

    So, a £30 fine but 1 bike back. If I hadn't been stopped I definitely wouldn't have seen it.. : )

  • Every cloud etc.

Hope you get the others back soon.

  • Congratulations, Howard. Good outcome.

  • this arsehole has my handlebars and saddle!
    EDIT
reckon he may have bought my stolen bike and swapped bits to another build?

theres no doubt that theyre my parts, wrapped the bars from bike below, in gold cello tape, same shit finishing where the plugs are, and same brake levers/cabling etc!

If anyone sees the above frame its likely on its own.

have contacted seller regarding having a look, maybe he'll have the rest of my stuff stuff at his house, but not really sure of what to do even if he has the rest of the bike, doubtful that he was the one who stole it, unless he's a particulrly massive wanker, who builds semi tasteful bikes from stolen tasteful bikes.

    FUUUUUUUUUUUCK

  • Heartbreaking. This is like finding out your child has been abducted and is being sold on the black market after being raped.

  • Start off by removing the links from your post for a while. There are numerous 'guests' that often view this thread.

Contact the police and tell them what you know and where and when you've arranged to meet the guy.

  • ^^ Email task force now with link

in the middle of something similar and they are being reasonably helpful

    It's really not.

  • +1, thanks for the sentiment, but thats a serious overstatement, unless its a rinse on nutsjemoar's joke along the same line a month back or so?

noted, have removed the link, cheers, will email taskforce now.
