Well done guys,
Congrats on getting your bike back -

Cyclotron3k so glad you got your bike back man!
So I got home last night and was conversing with the guys from Equipe Morleys on facebook and one of them was like another friend of ours was looking for a bike and had seen one on gumtree and asked our opinions were of it.
Thom was immediately like..."This bike is stolen"
and I was like "Oh snap! I know the owner!"
Back when it was reported as stolen I knew if I ever saw it again I'd remember it, being so distinctive.
It's just such a coincidence that in such a short window of time, someone I knew was looking at a stolen bike asked a friend for an opinion who asked me and it happened to belong to someone I knew. Serendipity like a mother!
Glad you're reunited with your bike dude, I'd be gutted if I lost mine.

I just saw three kids stealing a bike each outside the UCL Anthropology or Archeology department which faces onto Gordon Sq. I was cycling up in front of them then heard them going "Mate this one's got no air the tyres" etc. When they stopped briefly at the bike rack outside Bloomsbury Theatre to check some more, I quickly tried to get a photo of them but I think they noticed me and were already gone so I only got a distant one. Will upload when I can.
They nicked a baby blue Brompton type bike, and a couple of grey hybrid/commuters (ridgeback looking) which both had very flat tyres.
They were about 16/17.
If they were yours I'd be happy to ID them, sorry I couldn't get a better photo.

had my pedals and chain nicked off my bike while it was locked up in broad daylight between 11am and midday today, in the middle of the road intersection st John st and St John's lane, Clerkenwell.
Wankers. MKS GR9s with fit alpha double straps and leathered cages. Obviously easily replaced (hopefully my insurance with cover them) but annoying and brazen.
Maybe they were hoping I'd leave the bike and they could come back later to steal it? -

Weird story...
Caught a junkie stealing QR wheels of a bike locked up by the London Fields primary school. My brother told him to fuck off, which he did. We took the wheels off for safe keeping, returning to the bike to put a note on it, only to find it was fucking gone!
We basically accidentally stole someone's wheels. As my girlfriend pointed out, they would have gone anyway but at least this way he might get them back... for free.
So if anyone knows anyone who's wheels have been nicked, they've not, PM me and I'll explain all. We left a note where the bike was, so hopefully who ever's it was will get them back.

Walked past London Fields about two hours ago and noticed a wheel locked up opposite the primary school with a kryptonite lock sans frame.
Maybe the same guy took that too dbr. I rarely take my bike there especially on a saturday. Even though it's busy, things seem to go missing easily.

Happened to have become friends with one of the officers in the Cycle theft prevention unit for the City of London, he was telling me how the Met and City are basically two separate units and don't really combine forces at all, I was telling him how the Met cycle theft team is in contact with this forum and that I would get his details for him. If anyone has dealt with the met CTP unit can you let me know the contact details and names etc.
Cheers!

City of London police force used to have a 6'0 minimum height requirement. As a result, they had a reputation for being particularly thick (that is, selected purely on the basis of height).

This might well have been my friend's bike. I've tried to be sensitive about this major facepalm incident as I don't think she was aware of her lock fail so adding embarassment to loss wouldn't help, but hopefully that's the last time she does it. Gah.

My bike got stolen this morning from my 'secure' carpark in a block of apartments on creek road. The bike was a chrome charge plug racer. It had badly taped (white) bullhorn bars and the chain I had replaced just yesterday (it is black now rather than the red). The rest was original. Unfortunately I don't have a pic, but if anyone sees it, I would love to know.

Don't want to crap on your most excellent story. Main thing is you got the bike back and the thieving shit got arrested. The cops almost always get given a hard time here regardless of the results and fact is they helped you get your friends bike back.
Police cells aren't known for their roof gardens or panoramic views, I'd be amazed if the scrote could get a signal even if he did have his phone on him for a bit while in the cell. Think about how many times you can't get a signal while inside a building, then think about how thick the walls are of a typical police cell.
Depending on how much they care, thats a very well defined time window to see who he called if they go after the cell records/look at the call log on the phone.

You got frame number, sometimes the store keep a record of them? specially since the bike is not very unique...

They also used to refer to the Met as the "Metrognomes".

My bike got nicked outside of the marksmen pub on hackney rd last night. Its not the greatest of bikes but you quickly realise how much you like something when its gone. If anyone gets it back ill make it worth your while. Or even if you spot please let me know.

I'm in SE8 mate. Will keep my eyes peeled. Make sure you report it too, the local police are having a bit of a cycle theft crackdown at the moment.

What is suspicious about an eBay seller listing a load of bikes and power tools cash on collection in Kings Cross? ;)

So after a weekend away, I go to ride to work and some ARSEHOLE has nicked my front wheel from the car park of our building. Sigh.
On the plus side, my tourer makes easy work of London's shitty roads.
Over to classifieds for me now...
