7.40pm saw the guy on the orange Klein at old street / pitfield street. Unfortunately I'm on foot in ridiculous heels so couldn't give chase.
Will keep my eyes peeled though as he obviously shares a bit of my commute. Thanks a lot, I haven't found him again yet, though sticking to jv's info and trying again next week near the Basil cafe.
The amount of spots - and the fact I've spotted and chased myself - is absolutely ridiculous now!

Good evening all!
I had my new Specialized Dolce Sport stolen today near Paddington railway station. Black with a bit of grey road bike, frame size 57. It was locked just 2 meters from huge windows of Angus Steak House full of people, but it didn't help...
The only picture I have is this:
http://www.tredz.co.uk/prodimg/27553_1_Zoom.jpg
It had "test" plastic pedals and not a single scratch as it was just 6 days old.
I was terribly upset, but then realised that life is turning into a detective story and it is actually fun (it is absolutely not like this in Russia, where what is gone is definitely gone forever). So, at a specified time next week a police officer will be watching 2 hours of CCTV footage... And may see a face of some notorious bike thief....:))) And they actually told me (contradicting the info from one of the posts above) that if I find in on gumtree, I can contact them and they may meet the seller.
And then the excitement of chasing it myself in Brick lane tomorrow:)))Please PM me if you see it being sold somewhere!

shouldn't the police shut down gumtree bike classifieds, it seems like there is a whole load of stolen bikes sold through it.

will keep an eye out
you dont happen to have a frame no or identifying marks for the spesh do you? -
• #4733
just a frame number:(( so don't have much chance of proving it's mine really.
just the receipt... (from Friday the 13th, haha)
by the way if any one is going to Brick Lane tomorrow, please please let me know, as I don't know the area very well and I heard there is a special "corner" with stolen bikes? -

murmura, how was it locked?
-
• #4735
Hope you get your bike back Murmura, Good luck. I really hate bike thieves

Thank you!
I had Abus Steel-o-Flex (Bronze) cable.
I knew it was not good enough and I was planning to buy another lock today right away, was sure that just couple of hours in the very busy place with cameras is not a big deal. What a stupid mistake! -

How many of you have got digital cameras? Right, so why don't we arrange for one of us to go down Brick Lane every Sunday and take pictures of the scumbags selling stolen bikes. Then we can put them up here or on a website as a wall of shame of bike thieves. There is not much chance of anyone innocent getting unfairly accused because it is VERY clear who the guys are selling stolen bikes. (Hint: they're not the ones with the stalls). And anything that makes the sale of stolen bikes more difficult has to be a good thing. I'm sure the Evening Standard would pick up on the story and it might just shame the police into doing something, particularly when the thieves are so easily identifiable.
You might say doing this will just move the sale onto Gumtree, but I don't think that means it isn't worth doing. We can deal with that in turn.

Hi,
I had a Black Specialised Tricross stolen from Hackney Road last Monday - it's the 2010 model.
Reported it to police and they wont take any investigation further. I'm sure I've seen it on Gumtree but the advertiser won't answer calls and texts. Dont think i'll try my luck at Brick Lane as I think I'd get into a bit of trouble if I did see someone trying to sell it. These cheeky fuckers make my blood boil....if anyone has any ideas please post. Thanks

You won't get in a bit of trouble if you have evidence that the bike is your.

Not sure of a special corner in Brick Lane but have seen a few people who stand on the payment with just a bike or your see the people with other stuff on a rug worth about ten pence and a bike worth a few hundred. There was a guy with a nice white Kona road bike today near one of the stalls, startd to rain so he moved away to some scaffolding to get some cover. Not sure what he wanted for it.
There were some other guys scattered about just standing with bikes so just take a walk down there and have a look around. Didnt seem to be that many people out today because of the rain.
The DVD sellers make me laugh, surely there is not that many people buying shit DVD's to warrant all those Chinese selling them? I must have been asked by at least 7 different people and they are there every week...

Cal me negative, but how about you do it first and then post pictures of the kicking you got so we can all see where the flaw in this plan is?

as above there are some nasty looking characters that seemingly stick together. i dont think they would take kindly to being photographed. it would have to be done covertly or openly if you have a police or council official uniform on.
this is the corner
on the corner of sclater street and cygnet street.
you'll see bikes chained to the railings and boys on the corner looking shady. if the police appear they can walk off and not be tied to the stolen item. if anybody wants to know the price of something locked up you just ask one of them. that place always makes me feel dirty.

I'm still spending an hour a day searching all new bikes on Ebay/Gumtree/Bikeshed but no joy as yet. I will search for the next 12 months if I have to as I hear sometimes they keep expensive bike a while in the hope that the owner will give up. Got flyers all over London with a £400 reward on - can you think of anywhere or anything else I can do?
I just went into the cupboard where it used to be after 10 days abroad. I definitely wasn't this cut up when my X moved out. Funny how you can get so attached to a few pieces of metal, rubber and plastic welded/bolted together. I guess for a start they don't nag you.

hope it works out for you.
this forum has a decent recovery record at least (speaking from experience).
and yes, it is devastating- absolutely gutting, especially this, which is so out of your control. -

I did march into the police station and try to get them arrested last year, as I wrote about here:

Didn't work....

www.bricklanebikethieves.com seems to be free
It wouldn't be too hard to get close-up photos of the gang taken with a long lens. Besides, it's a crowded area, and you could just be a tourist taking pictures....

A mate just had his 08 Giant Bowery nicked from near Bethnal Green station. Guess its time to trawl Gumtree in the hope of spotting it, or a trip to Brick Lane on Sunday.
What time to the cunts arrive to do their dodgy deals? -

What time to the cunts arrive to do their dodgy deals?I would tell him to stick around the area now in case there is someone on the street trying to make a quick sale. Maybe even head down Brick Lane as we speak. I once saw a guy outside the bagel shop trying to offload a bike he'd just nicked, and that was in the evening.

The description and photo is remarkably poor considering what it is. Could be completely innocent mind.

Could be completely innocent mind.
guilty until proven innocent,,,,,, interesting.
The odd thing is that I've been selling single speed and fixed conversions on gumtree for a while and of the 20 odd bikes I've sold no one has ever asked for the frame numbers. Even though I log and photograph the frames and number pre powdercoating no one has asked and only 1 has met me at my house many prefer a station meet or that I deliver.Mainly they have been in Hackney tho.
