Putting 2 and 2 together...
Formunger Hobo had his prized fixed gear stolen from a Hospital compound.
He managed to find it by chance through a friend.
This is his post in Stolen bikes.

(Bascially it might be the same network of thieves??)

how many times do i have to learn this lesson?
Other people will never look after your stuff as well as you would. Ever.

Just curious .
They got through a Kryptonite M18!
Did you see the lock after?
Are you sure he locked it with that lock!
-
• #4605
Are you questioning his friends integrity? I must admit, that was my first thought. Sounds like a bit of a crap friend
Good luck in getting in back though. Its a very distinctive bike

That's kind of why I was relating it to Hobo's theft. They had heavy cutting equipment. Prob do the rounds in the middle of the night at hospitals, shopping centres etc? /[Total speculation]

is it up on immobilise.com?

I'm sorry to say that, but unfortunately if they want to break a lock, they just do it...they just need the huge tool required to do the job, but once they got it you're fucked
some even go around with a bloody van, pretending to be some sort of "council removal team for abusive bike parking", breaking the lock in front of everyone in the middle of the day and loading the bike onto the van. a friend of mine got it's bike stolen that way: he managed to find the bike on sale in brick-lane market though, but as the bike was brand new he couldn't prove the ownership.
you seem to be in the position of knowing very well every bit of your frame, that might really help
send friends around in the markets (look for someone without a proper shop or stand, but who put a sort of tea-towel or jacket on the floor with the frame, crank etc on it so that they can grab the stuff and run in case of problems) and good luck : -

What a stunning bike. At least it's very distinctive - will keep an eye out for it

I have to say I was a little surprised they got through that lock (and another couple). I'm so angry at the moment I can't talk to him to find out details of what happened but he assures me he lock it up with that and a Forgeddaboutit for the wheel. If I was going to lend him my pride and joy then I made sure he had the best locks for it.
I'm thinking it must have been a van with hydrolic bolt cutters. Can't think what else would get through it.
Thanks for all your support. Feel like i've had my bollocks ripped off.

I've also marked the frame with alpha dots so I can definitely prove it's mine if it's found.

There is a fair bit of CCTV round there was it near the mcdonalds/entrance to the shard?
Shard has lots if workman overnight with access to heavy cutting equipment and vans I imagine.
I live local will keep my eyes peeled!

Just finding out from police about CCTV as it's very near a mainline station so lots of cameras.
I just wish I could pop into a shop and replace like for like but that's impossible. Think it's time to start riding around on a Boris bike.

I have just had my bianchi racing bike stolen and am absolutely gutted - it was double locked and only left for 15 mins. I live in N4...It is the 2010 model, Bianchi C2C Via Nirone 105 in Azzurro Blue retail just over a grand.
bike bought from evans - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bianchi/via-nirone-7-105-2010-road-bike-ec021255
Given it's this year's model it will be suspect without all the bianchi paperwork. If anyone has any ideas where these guys get rid of bikes quickly it would be greatly appreciated. Or any sightings, pls call 07919 348301 cheers

it was double locked
with what?
-
• #4616
et1, sorry your bike got nicked. For the sake of others, so they might learn from your loss, what exact locks did you use? Try Gumtree, then Brick Lane Market on Sunday............
-
• #4617
Not sure if you have already checked, but try:
Not really sure how it works, but apparently it pulls together all the bikes for sale on ebay, gumtree etc in London every day. I guess you have to check everyday?

• #4618
I've also marked the frame with alpha dots so I can definitely prove it's mine if it's found.
What are these dots of which you speak?

Please keep your eyes open for this bike.
Frame is 4 weeks old, other parts older.
Stolen outside of a shop I was working on in Shorts Gardens Covent Garden.
I chased the thief but couldn't catch him.
Bike now keeps appearing on Gumtree. Take a look - it's making me weep.If anyone sees this bike around - it's quite distinctive because of the colour - I would really appreciate it if you could report it to the police. I've let them know and have a crime ref.
no. etc.Thanks,
A Very Sad Cyclist
did this happen tuesday(?) last week? and was it locked to a pole near Scoop?
my mates mentioned that they saw someone ride off on a nice condor then very shortly afterwards, someone (you?) chased after it. didnt occur to them that the bike was getting nicked (they're tourists). saw an unlocked hybrid where your bike was...prob the thief's previous bike? unfortunately i was getting my gelati inside Scoop when it all happened. such a busy public place, you'd think it's safe enough there. that really sux

Yes that was me running after the bastard from outside scoop. I was running so fast I couldn't shout.
when he got to the top of Drury lane at High Holborn he just vanished. I thought I stood a chance to catch him as he didn't have shoes for my pedals. I just feel he got into a van.
I was working in the window of the hairdresser opposite and kept looking at bike all the time, apart from that couple of seconds. I was with some real hard guys who were shop fitting with me. God if it had been 10 seconds earlier that guy would have got it. -

spotted what looked to be a stolen bike heading north east around Hackney Downs about 7pm this evening... apologies if I'm casting aspersions but it looked way small for the rider who was struggling with the concept of straps and didn't really suit the bike...
...anyway lemon/custard yellow frame (no decals), coppi chrome fork, black sugino cranks, black deep section rear rim with a shallow front rim.
if you're missing it, I suspect it's in the shacklewell area.
Black Coppi fork? I saw this locked up in Clapton on Friday, with the back wheel missing. It was still there on Sunday, so if it was nicked, the thief got robbed himself... I'll have a look tonight, see if it's still there.

Good luck getting that back buddy that frame is gorgeous.
I'd be so pissed off if that was my mate. Just goes to show don't lend them anything you really hold dear to you.

Here's the link to the Alpha Dot marking thing.
-
• #4624
that bike look awesome, would love to give that a try, such a shitty thing to happen though.
kill your friend, kill him right in the face.

This is the only other photo I have left from the other side. If anyone sees it out there please really hurt anyone riding it, call the police and I will cross your palm with silver. Good luck to any scumbag trying to ride it - they'll end up on the road or going over the handlebars.
