As much as you love your bicycle, it's still a bicycle that does what you want it to do in the end.
do you not have insurance or something?

See these guys tonight on these two bikes both way to small for them and the one furthest away had a load of pink girls stickers all over it. Are these stolen? I would say that they probably are.....
Maybe though these guys like to ride round on small bikes that dont suit their image.
This pick was coming out of Greenwhich park tonight going towards Black Heath.
I'd say not stolen.

Good idea. I think the leaving them completely unlocked/entrapment argument is tricky, you're never going to have a utopian society where an unlocked bike won't get nicked. But fucking good work police if you are gonna track these bikes back to the gangs.

I don't buy the entrapment argument. An honest people wouldn't shoplift unsecured goods from stores, so neither would they steal someone else's property in the street. If someone wants to cross that thresh-hold they've got to accept they're in the wrong (in the eyes of the law).

I agree with Ed. I know I'm a newbie here, but to me it is a bit of a piss take to only post on one thread, bumping your own bike.

nope, no insurance :(

Okay that explain why you're very anxious about it, I do feel your pain, though it puzzle me why you didn't have insurance on an expensive road bike?

My mate had his Scott CR1 stolen from Kew Gardens on Sunday. Apparently afew nicked round there lately. Looking at flowers one minute then having your bike nicked is bad karma so hope the thief crashes and chokes on a rose bush.... also, keep your eye out for my medium Cannondale Siemens 2006 Polished alloy and black nicked a few months ago (around page 73). Very few around so stick out a mile.

Happy day today, got my front wheel nicked, less than 10min later had it back.
Weel done Sergeant Chris Scott (Stoke Newington Police), thank you so much. -

Haha, good story! Did you get the job too? ;)

I hope so, it's a vacancy on the National Gallery.
Fingers crossed ; ) -

what happened to thief with K can?
-
• #4314
Good question^, the guy they saw carrying the wheel 1st, wasn't the one that had it there (there = that little seating area at the end of London Field's bike lane, just next to Broadway Market), the Officers said the minute they arrived the wheel went on from hand to hand, but obviously the wheel was why they were there. I was told that 3 names had been taken and that's why they advise me to present charges, only then the cctv on Mare St. can be used, if I complain. Bottom line here, everyone can say 'it's only a friggin wheel, but the Police was actually telling me that, not to see things like that, it's my property, they nicked it, were caught and should be held responsible, even if it's only for the record.
I'll go to Stoke Newington Station tomorrow, that Sergeant Chris Scott was absolutely brilliant, seriously concerned for the cycling community. -

if it were me, I'd nick the c**t.
+1 for CCTV and Boris has told plod to take bike theft seriously so they will probably follow up with a prosecution rather than caution.

Too right! Romany Gypsies are a race though. Fact.
true fact, though all romany (more or less) are gypsies not all gypsies are romany,
and all gypsies are never pikeys/ travellers, and to call them one gets them very upset.

I have to say that those bikes don't look stolen at all to me...firstly they are two p o s, crappy, not give a fuck bikes, which are always too small or large for the riders as basically they ride such horrible pieces of crap knowing that no one else would want the god awful thing...
take another look at the picture...if that bike was stolen...would you buy it? what would be a bargain? £25? £50...at fifty you would be getting ripped off. Usually stolen bikes look totally out of place or are just too damned shiny for the owner, they just look like they wouldn't be bothered to make the effort to own something so personal, and as such the bikes look really out of place.
If someone has already commented then fair ehough, and If I have come over a little caustic then hey, I'm sorry, but phulease I have never seen something so obviously less stolen.

The point is that it 'was passed from hand to hand' the original person carrying it wasn't the person it was taken from to be returned to the owner. They'll need CCTV to ascertain exactly who took it.

Had my 2 week old brompton stolen yesterday from my garage (live in Reading) while I was working in the house a couple of feet away. Some opportunist walked up the drive and helped themselves - they left the ss though. The bike is too new for me to have given it any distinguishing marks yet but I have put a saddlebag on which has a few tools in it. The bike is a brompton S2l in red. I have the frame number if anyone sees something.
-
• #4321
that really suck, unfortuantely it's pretty hard to find your Brompton.
best thing to do is report it to the police, and do you have insurance on the Brompton?
it's worth installing some wall/floor mount to lock the bicycles with, even if it's indoor.

• #4322
thanks ed - reported and insured. Posted more to console myself rather than in hope of seeing it again. The moral of the story is that there are desperate people out there that will take a big risks to take your bike....

• #4323
My missus just spotted these 2 bikes being sold at the exact same corner, off london Fields,
where my front wheel was recovered from last week, make your own conclusions.
