My mate's Surly Long Haul Trucker (brown) was stolen from outside the Scolt Head in Dalston last night around 8/9pm. He had locked it up with a cable lock, d'oh, but there were people sitting right next to it.

Hi everyone,
My beautiful Bianchi was stolen on Thursday night, between 20:30 and 23:00 in Old Nichols St, of Shoderich High St.
So painful!!! Been riding it for three years every single day.
From the original Bianchi pista 2005 that I bought new I changes the handle bar for flat one, add straps on the pedals (MKS) and change the gear ratio to 44-16. It had as well a MKS chain tensioner.
Lets keep an eye on it! Thanks!

just got my bike stolen from Tesco's in Whitechapel road.
totally gutted.honestly, and im still in shock at how quick it happened.
so i walk in to Tescos's i don't have a lock with me, so I assess the situation and see the security guard right by the door. i mean literally next to it. ok, good.
Im with a work colleague and i ask him to keep an eye out for my bike which i put right in to tesco's, right next to the counter, with the security guard literally 1 foot away. I ask the security guard to look out for it and in fact, he rests his hand on my bike seat, so i feel confident.
so off i go to get my beef burgers i planed to buy, about 3 car length away, and by the time i get there, i hear some shouting, i look round, and my bike is gone.
What the holy fucking shit ???
so i run like a fucking mentalist, and he's gone, no where to be seen.
after speaking with the security guard and my friend, what happened was that the thief's friend asked for directions to the security guard which distracted him for 5 secs, in which time the thief got hold of my bike and was on his way.
My friend saw this immediately, and went for him and he was literally so fast that he could not catch him, cos the thief started riding it immediately.security guard went running after him what seems miles down the road, and by the time i caught up with him he's lost sight of him, as the thief had caused loads of havoc by running reds lights at breakneck speed it seems and cars having to do emergency stops all over.
Well, this is what i was told and i could see everyone talking about how "crazy" that guy was.Anyway, im here typing this and i feel ok about it, but it is hard to not feel angry at my friend, and the security guard and last but not least the thief.
This deserves to be in the epic fail thread, since the security guard was a foot away and my friend was a less than 2 meters away and they still couldn't do anything. For fuck sake.
Anyway i have some plans to get it back, as it is registered and all that, and besides the front wheel is put on with a pin-lock.
Hope the fuckers drill a hole in their eye, and die trying to remove it. cunts.
as you can see the pictures show different variations of parts, but basically the top picture is how it looks like now, but with white handlebar tape.
please please please, if you see it, grab it for me if you can and tell them it's yours. If anyone does help me get the bike bike, i'll see you straight with lifetime beers at drinks or a hefty wad of cash... honestly, whatever , just name it, i just want my bike back.
edit]
actually i'll go one step further and say now that to who ever manages to trace it will get £100.

anyone had any sightings of my bike ? even a mere glimpse ? please let me know if you have.
thanks

Been lurking for a while, looking for an excuse to post something. Found it...
Not Hackney thievery this time - my girlfriend and I have just had four bikes swiped from out of our courtyard in Camberwell. I plan, once the rage subsides, to check out brick lane of course. Anywhere else I should be looking, south of the river perhaps?
I'll have a dig for photos, decriptions in the meantime:
[]2005 Langster (the grey one), brown charge spoon saddle, 105 brakes and Mavic CXP22 wheels with harry rowland stickers on them
[]black Kona Africa Bike with a giant chesterfield-sofa looking saddle and mismatched tyres
[]white Closed 700c mtb-thing with front disc and 8-spd nexus coaster brake hub
[]pretty washed-up looking GT legato 4Not too bothered about the GT (it'll be the finders fee...,) but the other three are fairly distinctive - many thanks for a shout should anyone see one of them.
I'll go back to muttering to myself and randomly kicking things now...

Not to be unsypathetic to people who have had there bikes nicked, but i often wonder why people use armoured cables, as they seem to be so shit.
Someone got under the roller gate of the under ground car park of my building the other week and the only bike that got nicked was one locked with an amoured cable.
Do people use them because there easy to carry? Because people see others using them (people see other people with a cable locked around there waist while riding, so they get one too. I've often thought how easy it looks to carry one of them around). Ignorance at how crap they really are?
It kind of mistifies me

Use anything less than a top-of-the-range D-Lock and you might as well lock your bike up with a string of sausages.
EDIT: that might actually work against vegi thieves.
-
• #2811
Even top of the range D-locks are getting chopped tho.. im investing in one of cleftys disc lock alarms might be enough to deter (or just cause some hearing damage) ..cunts

Ive been up the route I emailed everyday. Both Saturday and Sunday I was up on Brick lane, and it was eerily quiet....Not a whiff of your bike mate...possible it went south of the river?
Still on the lookout....Its a shame as yours is real distinctive, unlike people who post:

Bikes being stolen by London Bridge tube station
Walking past Natwest bank by Borough market this afternoon about 2.30pm saw 2 guys with a pair of large pliers attempting to steal a dark green Giant road bike with black helmet attached (it was locked up with a cable lock about the diameter of a bottle top). I confronted them and they casually walked across the road and hit inside a pub yard while I called the police. Unfortunately I had to go to a hospital appointment so couldnt stay to check they didnt do a runner, but at least they didnt manage to take it. I went back a few hours later to check they hadnt finished off the job and the bike was still there, but this time with 2 more dodgy fuckers scoping it out ( I can only guess they were friends of the other two!).
If you lock up by Natwest bank, make sure you lock properly, there's obviously a few bastards who are incredibly confident at cutting locks in such a busy place!

Think marking/registering the bikes is a great idea, and make a full police report if bike stolen, this bloke could not prove he was the rightful owner after spotting it.
http://digilander.libero.it/felixpetrelli/bicyclethieves.htm
"Police. When you need them they are never around. I crossed the road, and always keeping an eye on my cycle, called '999'. "Don`t leave the telephone box, we have located you, some officers are on their way." I was happy at the idea of having found my bike. Two bobbies passed by. I explained the situation. I described the bike and when I saw a guy unlocking the bike, the officers crossed the road and stopped the guy.
They questioned him and his answers were enough for them to let him go with my bike. He was a French student who had bought the bike from Brick Lane Market in London for £ 50 two weeks earlier. So they turned to me - "In his limited English we believe he is in good faith." There was no crime and because I hadn
t reported the theft at the time they couldn
t refer to any criminal record either. They could do nothing - it was a civil matter....I contacted Cycle AID - a free cycleline tel. 0800 387815- for advice and Mr. Michaeo Blair, an ex Northen Ireland PC, remarked that here in England investigation is not compulsory and that just to open a civil trial would cost me around £ 80 in a county court, and even then there was no guarantee of winning the case.** He further explained that a photo wasn
t enough to establish the ownership of the bike.** Maybe a frame number could help. So I called the shop where I bought the bike and they said my bicycle didn
t have a frame number because bicycle companies have only recently started to write numbers on bike frames." -

for a second there, my heart jamp as i thought you had seen it.... :(
thank you so much for keeping an eye out... i honestly appreciate it cos i cannot do so myself cos its not my hunting ground at all, i never go down those parts.
another thing happened today, i saw a white bike with black decals in the distance, and one holy load of adrenaline squirted out of kidneys, but as it got closer i realised it wasn't mine.
it's terrible getting your bike nicked, it really is.
i've been looking in the usual places, nothing turning up. whether it is south, east, west or north, i hope one day i will spot it, and at thatrpoint when i do, god forbid my actions. i really don't know what i'll do...

hi all
sadly, had my bike stolen today -- not sure what time -- from regent street corner charles ii. about 100m from piccadilly circus and a few thousand tourists. totally gutted. i'm sure whoever did it was spotted by a gazillion people.i went to the police station and they say they hardly recover a bike, so things look bad from that side. bike is a dawes giro 400, graphit/white/red frame color, 24 gears (yeah, i know, geared..), etc. were you around taking pics at the time by any chance? :)
btw, has anyone managed to recover anything, going to brick lane or something?
sad sad sad cheers :

listen i know this seems a bit weird but i saw 3 hooligans, riding around oxford circus, one was on a geared silver dawes about say, small size... my information doesn't help much but it occurred immediately that the bike he was riding could have been stolen.

or does anybody else want to help her at bl this sunday.
i would but i cant cos i am booked to go oop north.
-
• #2823
Well I got myself a nice new frame, not quite my vivalo, but still decent. Given up hope on finding that bike now, must have been stripped to sell to pricks on BL by now or being hidden for a few months to sell on later. Either way, whoever buys that back won't get away with riding it. Best of luck to all here who have lost their rides...so angry to hear of it.
i saw a vivalo today (cant remember where though).
let me know if you want me to try and think harder.
