hippy A guy did the same thing in NYC. It's on YouTube. He uses hacksaw, bolt-cutters, angle grinder.. broad daylight.. no one bothers him.
I have the UK one on my Sky box. Dunno if you can record off them or not. Just not nerdy enough to find out these days..i thought some one did bother him (the guy in new york): last one, where he's using an anglegrinder. guy on a scooter stops to watch, then after about 30 seconds begins to give him advice on how to do it better/quicker.
i use D-lock and a trelock fat chain thing. i need to get some proper insurance, tho.

sorry to hear about ted's ride. i was planning on grabbing a krypotnite mini D lock, to add to the abus chain, but i'm not sure now what the best bet is. So just what locks are a good deal?

Was getting a rack for the lady from the bike marketstall in brick lane on sunday and saw a guy come in with a blatantly nicked Dahon to fix a puncture. Overheard him saying "Yeh bruv I'm well nackered innit caus I was up nickin bikes all night. Only got 4, nuffink around but one was a wicked single speed. You should see it, I'm gonna make 400 quid today easy."
I felt a bit sick. Hope it wasn't anyones here.

it seems we have underestimated the intelligence of these thieves.....they know that single speed bikes are desirable......we are all doomed!
-
• #289
Maybe the only way to stop it is to actively advertise that they are nicked some way. Saw loads of people picking up dodgy bikes there. As long as people keep buying, people keep nicking.

• #290
ah, hence why ted was riding the black bike y'day at polo!

There was a red Quintana Roo for sale on Gumtree - wonder if it was the same one?
I'm lucky that i can keep mine inside at home and work - There is a Pearson outside my studio, really suprised no one has tried have it?
It is outside a language school, but i doubt that'll stop em? -
• #292
no fucking way. where did ted lose it? was he really pissed?

Saw the quintana again this weekend. Same spot. Maybe not nicked.

• #295
wow! whats the gossip???
-
• #296
he got it back yesturday evening - he found a note in his pocket giving the address of where to pick it up.
Some lady saw him lying asleep in the street with his bike on his lap, and after watching a group off lads pick up his bike and ride down the road then return it, she dicided it would be better to look after the bike for him. She took his bike and locked it inside her shop that was just around the corner then left the note in his pocket saying where it was.

sleeping in the street?
so the kids didn't like how it rode and took it back?
crazy story
I had a close call this morning.
I parked in the stands in the middle of High Holborn at 08:45. I came back an hour later, and my bike was still there, but the one that had been locked to the other side of the rack wasn’t. I had locked my bike frame to the stand with an Evo mini, with a Kryptoflex cable through the wheels to deter anyone with a spanner. The 10mm thick braided steel had been cleanly sliced through.
It's a busy time of day. The stands are right next to a busy pedestrian crossing. We really don't have a chance, do we?
