    Gutted. If anyone sees anything let me know. Will be browsing gumtree today and then brickers on sunday. any help appreciated.

    First is pink metallic with black deep v's on gran compes and sugino chainset.
    Second a 2006 flyer with red deep v's on goldtec hubs. Tioga risers.

    Any help apprecited.

  • I think it is worth pointing out that insurance policies draw no distiction between outside and communal hallways, underground carparks (including secure), sheds, lock up garages, balconies etc.

    The only place it should be left unlocked is inside your house. Otherwise it should be locked to an immovable object and left for no more than 12 hours (considered abandonment).

    People beware! - put it in your flat. Your flatmate/landlord/partner/etc is wrong and the bike must go inside the house.

    I've had quite a few friends have bike pinched in the aforementioned locations and just don't want anyone else to have the same thing happen!

    CharlieWhiskey, please tell us how they were locked, or tell us even if they wern't locked at all. You are asking for us to help you in finding them, and this helping is normally considered a 2-way street. The info you provide helps others protect their bikes better. Cheers.

  • Why-oh-why-oh-why aren't more people using a disk alarm lock and another lock, to secure 2 or more bikes together? Move one, and the alarm sounds.

    A fantastic solution for bike on fire-escapes, or in communal halls, as well as within earshot outside a pub.

  • Because it was only recently discovered that we can use the disk alarm lock, netherless it's my next purchase.

    Thing was though they were inside my apartment building on the second floor. with only one flat per floor. so whey went through the front door. ignored 4 decent moountainbikes on the groundfloor and straight up to second floor which you access only by closed doors staircase or elevator. they then ignored the bmx standing there and decied to take my two bike and the extra bike stuff i had like tyres, dropbars, pedlas, saddle..
    Sooo i think they just stuffed this in a van and rode off...

  • Are you saying then that they wern't locked at all.......or what are you saying?

  • Just seen three scallies in Soho scoping, messing with a Celeste Bianchi roadbike on Noel Street.
    My watching made them move on.

    Soho people check your rides about now.

  • My bike was stolen in Southwark on Monday 7th Sep 2009

    pmanacas, tell us exactly how your bike was secured please? We keep notes on how bikes were stolen. Thanks.

  • Just realized I have a recent photo of my Trek Soho which was stolen from Piccadilly a few weeks ago. It's obviously long-gone, but do keep an eye out for it around town, eh?

  • Just had two bikes stolen from outside Royal Oak on Columbia Road E2. Both locked to lamppost with 2 Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit D-locks. A Charge Plug Freestyler (2009) and a Specialized Langster Monaco (2009) with cloth griptape on the handlebars. Absolutely gutted - is Brick Lane the only place worth looking? If anyone sees them, please PM me!

    One of those guys from Gumtree was selling more than fives bikes... and a well used concrete cutter. Strange, isn't it?

    Both you and your "friend" had Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit D-locks on each of your bikes? Thats not only a big coincidence, but I know the Mini can't fit around any lampost, unless of course the bike is raised high up off the ground. The lower part of lamposts are too wide for a Fahg lock.

    Also, how long did you leave your bikes for. The Fahg takes 3 minutes to cut by angle-grinder, so they would have needed 6 minutes, and for no-one to notice sparks flying and the sound of a chainsaw (practically that loud).

    Sorry, I was born a bit sceptical. Not only would you be one of the first to have your bikes stolen when (properly?) locked with Fahgs, but to have two stolen..... Its almost beyond belief. Any photos of where you locked your bikes, or do you have any bits of the locks that were cut?

  • Now that my bikes insured I've started taking photos of it whenever I have to lock it up somewhere sketchy. This is a good idea right? or completely pointless?

  • You should put the lock through the rear of the frame, and the rear wheel when locking to railings.

    And in the final photo everything bar the frames can be taken from the bikes. Does the lock go around the sign-post? If so, stick it through the rear of the frame and the rear wheel, then lock the front wheel to the frame.

  • Speaking of how to lock your frame properly - this is how I usually do it, the front lock usually locked against the railing as well as the frame & wheels if one is presented;

    Also, always try and fill in as much space as you can when locking the rear lock, less movement, no room for any tools to be inserted, etc. it's almost impossible to try and wiggle that lock as it's pretty much stuck solid;

  • ^stick it through the hole in the chainring too for good measure, the swines stole my cranks once
