Came back to find that some light fingered scrote had stolen... my toe straps!
I mean honestly, what's wrong with the Sugino Messenger crankset? Or the wheels for that matter? Thieves today don't know they're born!
they probably don't have tools with them.

Have a look out for a Specialized Sequoia for me then please if you don't mind. My mate got his nicked this afternoon in south London. He is gutted as he got it to do the Dunwich Dynamo tomorrow, I am gutted too as its one of the only times I get to see him in the year and now he aint coming.
If i can then I will try and get a pic and police number for you if you are serious.
If you catch any of the lowlife you are planning to apprehend then best of luck to you -

another sunday another brick lane market.
Some dude trying to sell a ss/fg with track frame. Modern metallic black thing, can't tell the brand.
On the fork there are decals saying 'Freestyle nutter' or something.Dude selling it doesn't look like your average chav, but he demands 140 quid for the whole thing. Surely he'd get more on the bay? Looks dodgy.

Hi All im new here... This will be my 3rd post so woooo!
Anyway on Wednesday 24th June mine and my GFs bikes got stolen from just outside the IMAX at Waterloo.
The bikes were locked together with over £250 worth of locks - the bikes were:
Charge Plug Racer (Medium frame) with modified bullhorn handlebars taped red and small black and white finger brakes - the rest of the bike was as it was when purchased.
Fuji Track 2008 (Small frame) with bright blue handlebars with black finger brakes and blue chain - everything else as it was when purchased.
The locks were cut with a powertool - my guess is a battery powered angle grider - no many things stand up to those... :(
Theft was reported to the police and insurance co were informed - insurance claim is in progress and hopefully I'll hear from them today with claim result.
I did a bit of scouring the web gumtree and the like and also took a visited to brick lane but its like looking for a needle in a haystack...
Hope the bastards die horribly!
When I get a replacement via insurance or other i'll protect it with datatag, register and insurance and I have also shelled out for one Fug (kryptonite mini fug) and one Almax chain (16mm immobaliser) with one of their locks as advised on this forum... although I doubt i'll lock my new bike up anywhere other than at work from now on - not worth the risk!

I can't take credit for inventing a product or anything like that, but I think I'm the person who has suggested this particular motorcycle solution for bicycles.
I suggest buying a red or yellow disc lock alarm, as those colours stand out. A silver alarm might not be so bad when attached to a black chainring/crankset. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41tNasb-mmL.jpg, http://www.blacksheepcycles.com/Photopost/data/520/medium/SNC11681.JPG
As for which exact disk alarm lock, I can't tell you that. But brighter, louder, and least expensive, seem to be a winning combination. But disk alarm locks like the one pictured, are ideal, as they are so snug to the ring, that they cannot be cut off. It would be easier to cut off the chainring, or take off the whole crank. And which thief would ever do that?
As its a theoretical solution, I also can't give figures for how much or little vibration, movement is required to trigger the alarm. I'd be happy to simply reset it, if I was in a pub having a drink, and it went off.
I think if more and more people tried this, and there were obvious brightly coloured alarms attached to chainrings, I think theives would start looking at chainrings first, even before crossing the street with their bolt cutters. After all, they won't know where the owner is.......
Cheers - good advice bro - think I'll be buying one of these:

By the way this is my bike (its a post from my blog so hope you all don't mind!)
http://pixelspencil.com/wp/2009/06/08/damn-bicycle-teefs/So gutted - it changed marginally from that photo - the handles had red tap and the brakes were changed to small black and white finger brakes - I have a photo of those if it helps anyone spot my old bike?
I have reported the theft to the police and insurance but would love the bike back - became so attached to it :(

!Very sorry to hear about your bike got stolen, but honestly mate, it's never a good idea to lock your bike outside the IMAX (or cinema in general), theft assumed you're in the IMAX watching some film, thus have enough time to cut it.

Ha i know that now... live and learn huh... Still it sucks that you have to 'avoid' certain parts or locking up for a certain period of time - would be greati f you could lock your bike up anywhere with confidence but the world don't work like that and if someone wants your bike really badly (as quoted on this site) they will most probably get it!
The place it was locked up in had a globe CCTV camera nad was directly opposite a uni campus so I presumed it would be ok there in public view - not like it was tucked in some little corner chained to a lamp post :P
I just hope insurance comes thru now...
-
• #2263
Good news the insurance has come thru and they want the details of a bike shop so they can make payment to the shop so we can get our bikes back.

Not sure if anyone has posted something like this before but last month my mate had his bike nicked that he had chained to a lamp post. The lock that he had used was nowhere to be seen by the post. so was a little baffled how they had stolen the bike ,to cut to the chase and leave out all the blurb it seems that the kids had loosened the post so that it could be lifted out of the pavement, so all they have to do is lift the post through the lock, take the bike, replace the post and wait for their next victim..
has anyone else had this happen -
• #2266
A lamp post... lifted... would it not have wiring in the base? Maybe they broke the lock and took it with them?

A good mate of mine had his bike stolen the other night
If you see this frame with silver deep v's and short chrome straight bars let us know.
£100 for whoever gets it back
Every now and then good things happen... this thread needs more cases like the one today.
This bike was just returned to it´s original owner after 3 MONTHS!!!... I got it from 2 kids next to my house, that saw me riding my bike, and offered it to me for £20! It took me almost 2 weeks to get hold of the owner. The weirdest shit is that we live in parallel streets.
Some days are really good days. -

has anyone else had this happenthis will sound unusual and a little unheard of but.. they cut the lock.

Or the lamppost then cleverly welded it back together with an invisible weld
-
• #2275
I'm assuming he means a street-sign-post and not a lamp-post. And yes, a lot of them can be lifted straight out. Always best to check before locking.
shit Chris :(
that was me and winston hooting earlier when we went past BTW.
will keep an eye, good that STW knows, hopefully he'll remember if he sees it
