  • Just to clarify. You turned up for the "sale" but the police didn't AND the seller/thief didnt?

  • I was waiting at home before the predetermined time that I’d arranged with the seller to buy, and separately with the coppers to accompany (after the last one where the police had nobody to attend and I had to cancel). And the coppers never called or arrived. So I never left for the meet.

  • Inconsiderate at best.

  • Would defo portray the 'this is the details and whereabouts of the person/persons who physically attacked me' over 'help me get my bike back' when dealing with police. Which is shit, wouldn't make anything up or overamp anything as somehow you may end up with charges against you for wasting their time.

Twice in my life i've been 1st on scene with very bad RTC, and both times on calling emergency services they have NOT dispatched Ambo or Police based on my inbound call, one relied on another person also calling them while I was working until something was sent, and the other one I was still on my own unable to do anything more for the casualty and they had not dispatched an ambo until I called again some 15 minutes later to ask where it was, at that point one was sent and arrived and all was well. In the second case it was not far from being a happy ending, the casualty needed work in the ambo before they made it to A+E, if that had happened and I was on own, it wouldn't have ended well.
I think both times I was too calm and methodical for the call handler to grasp the seriousness of my call, in my mind someone giving as much coherent detail in a calm and understandable manor = will get results. But the call handlers seem to want to hear unhinged neuritic screaming and audible trauma until = we'll dispatch some help now.

They walked straight up to our garage and started to open the lock, my girlfriend spotted them (the kitchen window overlooks the garages) and asked them what they were doing. They gave a story about a mate telling them to get something from garage 16 (ours is garage 6), and they walked off. Clearly they went round the corner, then five minutes later they were back, and as I ran down the stairs they opened the combination lock (!), pulled up the door, grabbed Fenella's bike and legged it with it. They shut the door and took the padlock with them, oddly.

  • took the padlock with them, oddly.

When did you last open the garage? Maybe they took yours off and put their own on earlier to make it quicker to get in and out

  • Interesting MO. Wouldn’t put it past them if it was a readily available commercial lock.

They could also have shimmed the padlock. #lockpickinglawyer

  • A good chance they'll be back? Warn others?

  • Sounds like you need some new garage doors

  • Sounds like you need some new garage doors

I've got an up and over garage door, recommend getting some deadlocks fitted, something like a pair of Asec AS1997 Garage Door Locks. If you rent, cheaper than changing the door.

  • Sadly my Condor Pista was Stolen 1st January between 7am-11am 2nd January 2022 from the bike lock up outside my house, it was securely locked up and isn't visible from the street (in a wooden gated area) used for bike lock up and recycling bins. Seems to be stolen by someone who might have access or would have seen me with it in the local area (South Bermondsey) near milwall FC.

Its a pretty unique looking bike as I have stripped it of the original paintwork and is now raw metal, i only recently changed the handlebars on it to flats. If anyone see's it or hears of something please contact me on 07733757178. Is very dear to me, as I was given it by a close family member. Thanks

  • I was at work in Shoreditch at old street records that night but cycled back after at around 6am. so you may well have seen it before I left work :) thanks

  • A friend just sent me this, spotted in the Free Stuff South East London Facebook group and posted by member Dango Mango.

  • Thanks so much for posting this to the thread! Unfortunately the top one in the photo you shared isn’t mine. At first glance I thought it might have been too. It’s amazing how many people are on the search and will go to lengths to help each other out 🥰 thanks again

  • @EdwardPooley ah I'm sorry you got your hopes up Edward. Very best luck finding yours and don't mention it, it's in the spirit of this community and its basis in caring about one another. Please PM me and I may be able to give you a bike and get you back on the road.

  • Yeh, it's her own fault. Nice attitude.

  • Not the best place to lock up but I can't help but feel sorry for someone having a bike nicked. I've had real shitters stolen and been gutted about it.

  • People should be able to ride however nice a bike they like and not have to worry about it getting stolen. In the real world, and before any thefts have occurred, it's good advice to tell people not to leave bikes like that lying around, but after the fact it's definitely not a good thing to say. Telling people they're stupid for having done it is also completely unnecessary, as they'll already be telling themselves that in a way that has much more impact.

  • You are right .what I meant is ride your race /Sunday best on them days but ride a cheaper/rat bike if you need to lock it up in the street. I built a rat bike just to lock up in town.

  • Mega bucks cars are rarely targeted by thieves when parked on the streets, but bikes are all day long, frustrating and doesn't help cycling becoming more popular as a mode of transport.
Was on a multi day ride with some mates (spendy road bikes + bags), and we stopped in a town for some food, locked all the bikes up even though we were standing within 10-30m of them, as we were chatting at table outside pub, maybe 12m from the bikes a van pulled up and two guys just yanked the hell out of the pile of bikes to see what they could grab, then we noticed and 6 of us running at them, they took off. Couldn't chase, reported and police turned out, cloned plates + cctv wasn't that useful. Quite a lot of damage, mate had to get an expensive taxi and a train home as his rear wheel + mech was trashed, and end of the trip for him. Worst isn't the damage, its that all we remember of that trip (last good one before C19) was two scrotes jumping out of a van trying to rob a bike, and not the 3 days of amazing riding + mates. Fuckers.

  • Ive realised the only time I'm really anxious is when I can't see my bikes or if I can see my bike, locked but I'm wearing cleats and can't chase shit.

I suppose I should be grateful for that.

  • Exactly one year ago I got three bikes stolen from my basement.

First one is a Cougar TT bike, found on ebay via LFGSS, someone might remember it
    https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/322427/
Built Mavic Mektronic and Dura Ace 9sp, with Look Ergostem and Mavic bullhorns
Here more pictures and all the details

Second one is a Scapin Eos7 from 2002 with its original Wound Up fork, Ultegra 11sp built, with lots of FRM parts (headset, topcap, stem, seatpost) and handbuilt wheels with PMP carbon hubs

These pictures are a bit old, as I then added the FRM headset, Absolute Black oval chainrings and Deda Superleggera carbon bars

Third one is a Cannondale Caad12 in pearl white and black paintjob (pretty rare as this paintjob was only available on bare framesets), Ultegra R8050 Di2 built with Ciamillo Zero G20 SL brakes but incomplete as it had crankset and chain missing (last pictured in the link below)

I'm not living in the UK, I live in Turin, Italy, but seeing how international is this community I hope to get some news. Please keep your eyes peeled
    Many thanks
