No probs - now if you could just provide a picture of yourself, we can start a new witch hunt.

PS. would be awesome if said picture was of you in a compromising position, so that BDW could the photoshop a chimp in there for all our pleasure

  • Check out my website, y'all! I'm starting a project to try and combat bike theivery.

    http://inetblokes.wordpress.com/

I just kicked it off today, and would totally appreciate some help. Who knows? Maybe together we can find some of y'all's stolen bikes.

  • once someone contacts you, what are you going to do exactly?

  • I going to put the location on my map. If someone goes there and discovers a stolen bike, then they can call the cops.

You'll notice I'm not focusing on any dodgy shops (although we know they exist) or people (although we know them too), because it's not about me getting personal with these folks.

It's just meant to help people look for their stolen bikes.

  • how can you possibly say this when you don't actually know what has taken place apart from internet chinese whispers? you have absolutely no basis for that comment whatsoever.

    pathetic little e-warrior

    double cunt

  • Guys, this forum seems like a nice place and sorry to see this thread digressed somewhat.

Those that replied below - thanks for taking an active interest :)

Was it secured with the locks in the photograph?

I left the steel-o-flex (the cable one) at home that day, and as mentioned below, used the D lock through the rear triangle. There are pinheads on both wheels - seems a lot easier and safer than the cable approach. I normally stuff the cable lock through the D lock to prevent a pump attack - wonder how they got it. The only bit left of the lock was the grey plastic housing.

I just live around the corner - will keep my eyes peeled. Sorry to hear your loss.

Apparently there are quite a lot of bike thieves operating in that area. Where exactly on bunhill row was stolen? I've known people have their bike stolen right outside the fitness first gym.

Thanks for keeping a lookout! Someone tried to steal it before when I had just the flex cable - attempt at cutting it which I discovered when I got home, but I knew as soon as the key was hard to insert into the lock - they tried to force the mechanism.

I saw that bike yesterday locked on Bunhill row at about 12.30pm. I noticed you had a pitlock on the front wheel, and the Abus lock through the rear wheel and seatstays. I remember saying on the phone "quite a nice bianchi here with a pitlock on the front wheel". Really sorry to hear it was stolen, it looked like a good lock. Do you know what time it was stolen at?

! I locked it up about 12:10pm so you must have been hot on my heels. Are you a regular there?

It was stolen sometime between the above and about 7:30pm - guessing it was whilst it was dark. What was very strange is that there were no bikes there when I returned - very unusual for that particular set of racks. Perhaps a bulk white van & specialist tools job.

Again, anyone else please chime in :)

And if you local guys can suggest a first singlespeed / where to get on, please shoot me a PM or some such.

    Cheers

Sorry realised I didn't actually answer the question. Was at the set of racks behind Cass business school, as you head through to waitrose. Not the ones actually under Cass, but just across the narrow road. Think it might be called Lamb's passage:

Pic I had to take of the location for the insurance:

what a pain in the bum

  • Spam spam spam (sorry!)

Just realised that the yellow fixed might be your bike :D

7 hours! to be quite honest, that's a very long time to lock a decent bike up outside, after all you did get back at 7.30, the bike probably got stolen between 5.30 to 7.30, that give the theft 2 hours to cut the bike at dusk.

sorry to hear about your bike gotten stolen thought, if I were you, try and find an old road bike, stripped all the geared part (leave the brake), I got a rear wheel with an freewheel sproket if you want to buy it off me for £30, it even got a decent tyres on, so it's ready to run.

hopefully the overall cost will stay under £100 (assuming you pay at least £70 for an old working road bike).

chance are they're less likely to nick it since it just a shitty (but working) bike and you don't need to worry that much if it does get nicked.

I work around there and just happened to be walking past. Have you asked around to see if anyone else's bike was stolen from the racks? If so, a combined attempt to look at the CCTV footage might yield some results? I'll keep a look out around the area anyway.

cheers for the suggestion... I hate the thought of giving in to thieves though. And although I agree it is a while to leave a bike locked, I had my last one stolen in broad daylight (1pm) after leaving it for 50 mins, wheras the same bike wasn't stolen from the train station where I left it for 3 days and 2 nights.. so who knows

I've not had the chance to ask around really. When someone attempted to take my bike from there, I went to speak to cass to see about the footage - they were very unhelpful :( thanks again

  • you are tempting thieves by leaving a nice bike in the east end though.
