Could all be a ruse- covering their backs!

Had a break in at my block overnight. 4 bikes taken, and they stole one of my rear wheels...
With most of the normal markets closed, should I just keep my eye out for them online?

What's more suspicious is when you ask about the axle;
No sorry keeping them for my wheels thanks
Ermmm OK.

My dad had his Bianchi stolen from an Islington bike hangar earlier this week if anyone sees it come up - pretty sure it was a Nirone C2C so something like:
Thanks guys

Can you tell us how the bike was stolen from the hangar?

He's not there thanks to lockdown but got an email from the council saying '1 or more' bikes had been stolen and the hangar provider was looking into it. By the look of this photo from a neighbour they carved open one side and sliced through his D lock.

Thanks. I think that's quite rare.

Yes, although there has recently been a worrying spate of thefts from bread bins. Different ways of getting into them--I think I've only heard of one where the side was cut before; others had the lock attacked. I have no idea if it's related to the 'lockdown' (oh, the irony), but these things had a reputation for years of being pretty safe owing to being noisy to get into, like metal boxes in front gardens, but that reputation has taken a hit recently.

Seems like there's been a big increase in thefts from these things. I had my bike stolen from one last month. Looked as though they had disc cut through the lock to open the whole thing up then cut through whichever locks they fancied.

Sorry to hear that. Yes, perhaps it's just that streets under lockdown don't lend themselves to passive surveillance. Thieves may (correctly) believe that they're less likely to be disturbed. Sometimes, all it takes is for that deterring worry to be taken away.

Also, once there is success using a method, they will inevitably rinse, repeat until no longer viable.
Saw a different hangar the other day, much bulkier. Assumed a new competitor for Cyclehoop or perhaps a prototype. Anyone have info? (it was barn shaped, not hangar shaped) and looked to have reinforced / covered eaves. Could have sworn it had the CH logo on it.
Either way, seems councils and manufacturer(s?) are aware of the new threats.

Yeah this looks like one that was stolen from someone’s friend on here, atz maybe?

Heya, looks like it's surfaced. I'll not post anymore about it in order not to jeopardise anything. I don't get alerts from LFGSS so sorry everyone who has '@' me - appreciate the help!

Went to look at the bike and couldn't confirm it was hers without the frame number. Few things like sticky brakes that weren't like that a few days before made us think otherwise. Might just be pure coincidence that it went on sale similar time

Quick update on our break-in and theft of multiple bikes (and accessories, and tools, and packages) on Monday night. The thief came back again on Tuesday night and took another bike, making it a total of 5 bikes. Luckily I personally just had the 1 wheel, some tools, and a light stolen.
Tuesday night one of my neighbours found the thief but wasn't 100% sure it was the same guy (unbeknownst to him he had broken back in to our building about an hour earlier). He confronted and then chased him but lost him. Last night at 11.30 I got a text from the guy - he had found him and detained him with a friend. I called the police and hurried over. The guy is now arrested and in custody - it's definitely him on our CCTV. He's a rough sleeper. The police have a couple of addresses he is associated with to check, but they're not very hopeful about finding any of the bikes.

No longer available. It wasnt purple by any chance was it? If so it was my neighbour's. Any idea how to find the seller on gumtree?
Looks like they brought it off someone else yesterday on shpock, whether it makes it harder to trace?
