I would follow, lock it with my lock and call babylon.
If you have time but dont want to engage, just follow and take a pic.
Otherwise at least let the person know that their bike is still kicking around. -

One of my colleagues spotted some suspicious behaviour on her way to work this morning:
10.10 am this morning: carrying a dark grey road bike with race wheels, road cleats, and a high saddle across Southwark bridge, then being ridden northbound and right onto lower Thames street. Guy was white, late 30s, heavy set, wearing ripped grey jeans covered in paint, trainers, black gloves, wraparound sunglasses, and a beanie hat. If you think you know the owner please send these details on, might help them/the police.

Hi Guys,
Another one bites the dust. My bike is the front one (got a good pick of it next to a frame twin). It was taken from the fence in front of the house this morning some time in Kennington, SE11.
Bit of a mongrel so shouldn't be too hard to spot if they don't bother taking the pannier rack off but I'm sure they're going to strip it for parts.Good luck all, time to have a drink for all the lost and stolen bikes out there.

Hi all,
My bike was stolen today from near Cornhill, city of London. It's a very distinctive bike - a black Cannondale bad boy with a single front fork, gripshift 3 speed with enclosed rear hub and disk brakes. It has a gold coloured rear wheel axle. Size medium. I'm offering a reward if you see it anywhere for sale etc.
Many thanks. robcapper@yahoo.com -

I posted this yesterday in the wrong spot.
Just wanted to mention a gang of kids kicked my friend off his bike and relieved him of it at knifepoint last night in Finsbury Park (in the actual park). He was taking a risky short cut after dark and paid the price.

Terrible photo as my ancient iphone is so slow to access the camera but any reports of a stolen BMC time machine? IIRC ultegra, mavic cosmics. Pedals switched out for flats. Geezer riding did not look like rightful owner.
Locked up outside Haringay Green Lanes Sainsbury's. Second time I've seen it there, both times locked right outside the entrance...

Dan, he's had it since I moved here two years ago...most probably bought it at a market or some random on the street for a fraction of what its worth.

Hi There,
My brand new specialized AWOL got stolen from inside a 'secure' lock up in my flat last night. It looks stock but has a tiagra double groupset, trp spyre sl brakes and possibly Tubus racks, front and back which aren't stock. Size M.
Definitely a professional job. Please let me know if you see a similar bike anywhere.

The tyres are also not stock, they're marathon supreme with reflective strips so should be easy to spot.

My two week old bike, worth £1.5k, was stolen at the weekend from inside a 'secure' lockup, inside my block of flats. I hadn't gotten around to sorting insurance out so basically I'm totally fucked. Yes, I know, I'm a complete idiot for not being organised on that front.
Prior to this happening I had thought that bikes were more vulnerable on the street. Turns out this is not the case. Having read this thread and spoken to the police about it, I get the impression that the majority of bikes are stolen from communal areas inside blocks of flats, or other properties.
I had a nice conversation with a police lady from the forensics dept. last night. She was trying to get fingerprints from a crowbar that was found outside our flat (to no avail). I learnt that it's extremely hard to make evidence stick. Even if you find prints or DNA at the scene, it won't stand up in court because it's a communal area, and the thief could argue that they were there by chance.
I don't have a lot of hope that the security in my block of flats will be improved. The ultimate deterrent would be to get CCTV but apparently today's criminal doesn't give a fuck. The only hope is that you catch their face on camera and then use the evidence to track your bike down. But it won't stop your bike from getted nicked in the first place.
That just leaves insurance, which I always knew was the only real form of security. That's a pretty shitty conclusion IMO. This experience has left me thinking that there should be a better way to tackle the problem in the first place. Bike theft is massive business and the police clearly don't have a handle on it. All they do is come around, take a statement and then close your case the next day. They're basically just facilitating the insurance claim process. I know this will sound naive. I just hadn't realised quite how vulnerable bikes are, even when they're locked behind three doors and with a fat chain / D-lock.
That's my tale of woe then. Moral of the story, make sure you've got insurance, which you already knew anyway. But also, is there a way we can put pressure on the police collectively to get a handle on bike theft?

Always wondered if you can't get compensation from whoever stated the lockup was secure in these circumstances. At work we have a locked storage room, access is managed by reception. If someone managed to get it, I'd hold them accountable for not adequately securing a "secure" room?
Three (yes three) bikes stolen from a 'secure' bike store in Tottenham N15 on Tuesday evening.
Red Trek single speed mountain bike with lots of stickers on it. Hamax and WeeRide child seat brackets. White Rock Shox front suspension forks and a black Brooks saddle.
White M3L Brompton and a
Grey/black VooDoo Marasa.
Give me a shout if you spot.
