  • Strange enough today my landlord came home angry at red light jumper cyclists saying that we should pay road tax :)) cause we are using the road and breaking the laws this got me thinking what we paid rad tax and got 50% of the road

  • fuuuuu

we do pay road tax, everyone who pays council tax pays for the roads

  • Recumbents have never been about aesthetics (obviously) but about comfort and (in the aerodynamic models) speed.

  • Not sure if this is the best place to post this but this happened last night about 6pm going down Holland Park Ave., waiting at the light to turn right into Ladbroke Grove.

There's cars and bikes all stopped at the lights when suddenly one of the bikes decides he's fed up of waiting and RLJ's it. Turns out the first car in the queue is an unmarked police car! Light on, jumps the red to go and chase down the naughty RLJ cycle man who looked pretty embarrassed.

    I LOLd.

  • ^ the fear

  • I openly admit to RLJ'ing some lights, if it means I am going to be safer at a dodgy crossroad I have to go through on my way home, then I am going to jump it. Or a ped crossing when there are no peds.

  • Is it time to give this thread another airing?

  • fuck no

  • fuck no
    +many

  • I admit to an RLJ at junctions I am worried about who is behind me and this is only setting off when the other lights are red & just before the amber & when the other lanes are clear of traffic.....

But as with all double standards, it is mildly irritating, when an other cyclist RLJ's across a junction that is green in my direction and I have to brake/swerve to avoid a collision.

Other than that RLJ'ing cyclists in my direction of travel are great for a moving Strava segment - even better when I'm on my CK hubs so that I freewheel past them at speed!

  • boooo

  • Police out in force by East Dulwich and Peckham this morning as well as last night.
Perhaps they'll have an impact on the bike jackings (real crimes) then.

  • Six cyclists (from fluoro nodder to full kit wankers) ALL jumping the lights at Shepherds Bush/Holland Park roundabout.

If you get flattened by a bus/taxi/white van I will act as a witness for the driver of said vehicle.

You lot are the reason cyclists are despised, you brainless cunts.

  • what is it with London and being overly sensitive with this?

You would have your heart broken if you rode anywhere else

  • Because London is more densely populated with fucking idiots than anywhere else in the country.

  • Anywhere else as in any other major city in the world

  • I'm only referring to the fucking idiots in this country.

6 months ago, these were the same people getting the hump about cyclists jumping red lights.

  • I will never understand how riding bikes on a red light is so frowned upon whilst honking your horn and screaming shit at people on the street is common practice. That is something about English culture I will never understand

  • There definitely levels of RLJing tho. I would never stop at a light/crossing where there is no traffic or ped's. That kind of stopping is just daft.

It's like the US road rule for turning 'their right' at a red light. Just makes sense if its safe to do so.

  • erik, considering you think a cyclist who looks around before making any changes of vector looks nervous, your views on dangerous cyclists are probably not too relevant

  • ^ This

But then again most things is safer in the US because there is generally 3 times as much space on any given street.

  • use the "dick move" assessment

if it is a dick move in a car then it is a dick move on a bike

  • erik, considering you think a cyclist who looks around before making any changes of vector looks nervous, your views on dangerous cyclists are probably not too relevant

with a head spinning like a propeller she had better view of what was behind her than in front : )

  • are you saying she was like the girl in the exorcist?

was she constantly changing lane? if not then as you mentioned she looked behind each time before changing direction, which is a good thing to do

or do you think the blase nodders who never look behind are good cyclists because they are confidently ignorant of their surroundings?

  • use the "dick move" assessment

if it is a dick move in a car then it is a dick move on a bike

manoeuvring a car with everything that comes with sitting in a big lump of steel is != riding a bicycle
