Finished my Super Randonneur series with the above 400km, super proud in my first year of Audax! I've really enjoyed all events (After a few days) and have found the community to be the friendliest and most welcoming I've come across in cycling so far!

I was on this ride, and you're right the second half was a much nicer affair. Glad to hear you persevered though, it was a nice hilly 100km, and well organised by Bob Millar. I believe he is organising a 200km in September too. If you are local to South Wales i can recommend the a few upcoming rides. The Trefil Travail is a great 100, similar to the ridges of Mon. My mate Dave Hann is putting on a couple too, the Witches Hat (hilly 100km) and the Gower Getter (windy 200km) both leaving from North Cardiff.

Cheers, I'll check those out. The just gone 'Summer Saunter' looked like it would have been a good intro to a 200 for me, but I missed it and probably wasn't fit enough anyway. Something to aim for next year.

I was on that too, it was a lovely ride (flat-ish 200). Fitness is obviously key but a lot of getting round 200km+ routes is good planning and eating enough in my experience.

Anyone taking part in the Straight Outa Hackney 2o0km this weekend?

Doing my first 600km this weekend. To sleep or not to sleep... Plan is to have a snooze at the McD at km 350.

Did the Trefil Travail 100km yesterday, it's a Dave Lewis route up into the South Wales valley's. The gent organising it warned me there was enough climbing to make it feel like a 200km, he wasn't joking! A thoroughly enjoyable route with spectacular views, would recommend for anyone after a hilly 100km.

Anyone doing the GMC in 2 weeks?

If light gets here in time I’ll be there

It's tempting. I'd probably need to dust off the geared bike though.

BBC London this weekend was fun. Anyone else ride it? Loved the first half through the peak district; did not like the Fens as much as I thought I would after all of those hills. Boston is... interesting...

Sleeping is always better.

Yeah, I ended up powering through, though more due to a lack of options than anything else (McD's at Lincoln was full of drunken students and didn't carry a sleeping bag or bivy). Had some weird hallucinatory moments at night, but apart from that it wasn't too bad.

Having lost a bit of enthusiasm for riding and spending a summer of dotwatching I've decided to join Audax UK (under LFGSS CC) to give myself an excuse to get out more at the weekends and do more than my 100k surrey hills and back excursion!!
Now to find a calendar event that's relatively close. Think ill dip my toes in with 100km to get myself going!

Do it! I’ve only managed 3 audax rides so far but each one has been great.

Bloody typical every one that's close(ish) clashes with plans (weddings/holidays/anniversary).
Looks like November is the earliest. Least I can take full advantage of my mudguards I suppose!

Just cancel the holiday and feign illness for the weddings and anniversary.

• #9769
Wow you really did enjoy those three audax rides didnt you

Cake and bikes. The dream!

Looks like the cambridge autumnal 200 is going to be the one to kick off this cake and bike adventure
Ffs, just been told I'm not here then either!

Any easy 400ks that might work at this end of the year?
-
• #9773
There is one this weekend in Hallbankgate (although not that easy to get to from London).

No chance! I only just got on the bike today to commute after Transiberica. I'm trying to get over a cold I had all race. This weekend will involve little to no riding. I couldn't see anything in the calendar so was thinking a Perm or DIY to take the missus around in maybe a month's time.

The Paddington express route was fairly innocuous. . Although I wasn't a fan of the A4020 section through Shepherd's Bush.
Or Back to the Smoke is a good route from what I've heard.
Anyone riding the Kingdom of the East Saxons this weekend? https://www.audax.uk/event-details?eventId=7016
